Speaking from BC here. You don't need to worry at all. Basically they only look at grade 12 and a wee bit of grade 11. And even then if it depends on where you're trying to go.

Are you thinking UBC/SFU/UVIC or BCIT or UCFV style? Each has a slightly different criteria, but none of them are going to care at all about grade 9/10. Even if they do notice, at least its a point of interest and a conversation starter.

It really depends what college you want to go to and where you live.

For us..it goes in this order-most important to least:

1. Grade 11 (junior)
2. Grade 10 (sophomore)
3. Grade 12 (senior)
4. Grade 9 (freshman)

I have a friend who works in admissions at the college where both of us went, and I can tell you without a doubt that they look at all four years of high school (in the US, that's 9-12). If you only attended half a year of your freshman year, they'll want to know why, and most college applications do have an "Anything else we should know" section.

If it's because you skipped part of a grade, they won't mind one bit. I promise.

That said, you seniors out there ought not let yourself slide second semester of senior year. Almost every college will rescind admission if you totally blow the second semester, and either get rotten grades or fail to graduate completely. Especially top-flight schools - they only admit 5-10% of their applied students, so they can always find someone else to take your spot if you blow it.

No pressure, but all of high school matters.

And that was what I was going to point. Seriously. It's not just "one year" all the years do matter. And it will hurt you if your reason for missing it is not something like "Oh, I was having open heart surgery" or "I was in Portugal studying their native tree hippos with a group of top rate biologists".
I've known people who got rejected after conditional acceptance; so you really do need to be good with your grades. (<- something I wasn't through most of high school with an average of like... 62 percent through all three years... which is why I took a fourth year and got H.W.D. HAH!)

well the reason I'm "skipping" half of grade 9 (actually I'm just taking some grade 10 courses) is because I took a test that authorized middle school graduation...would that be alright??

I'm sure. Skipping a grade (Called "double promotion" some places, or "early promotion" others) is something that is generally viewed positively.

Ah, another post-2006 graduate from BC. I'm in the same situation, I really hate the new cirriculum/program. Everything coming2atvnearu said is pretty much true, but mainly for people who aren't affected by this change. Seeing as you're talking about grade 10 now, I'm assuming that you're affected like I am.

Yes, they will look at your grade 10 grades, especially if you're aiming for local/provincial universities (UBC, UVic, BCIT, SFU...), specifically because there are now grade 10 provincials. At least this is what I'm constantly being told by my teachers. But of course, grade 12 courses will definitely be considered on more.

Skipping half of your grade 9 courses is okay, age is not a factor in this provincials thing (some teachers may actually look down on you though for being a year younger, but that isn't all too common; it won't give you any benefits in marks over others, you'll usually be treated as an equal). Almost half my courses are a grade above since I've been taking summer school and accelerated courses; eventually most people will have at least one course in the grade above, so don't worry about it.

The portfolio is also a new very-looked-upon thing by the provincial universities (UBC has said that they'll really base admissions on that in the future), I suggest you also put some effort in there. It's not just worth that 4 required credits, it supposedly is an admission thing for post-secondary institutions here.

However, if you're going somewhere else...I doubt any of this will matter save for high school graduation.

its not that I have anything against canadian colleges but I'm thinking of going to a college in the US...down south :D

and I already have my SAT's planned out and their ok..just have to work on them more...

and I guess the US colleges are also gonna consider the stuff canadian colleges refer to..maybe even more indepthly.

of and I was wondering if the college admin just view your letter grades or your percentage (what if they don't use percentages..remember I'm still technically a 9th grader). ??

oh and thanks you guys youve been a lot of help..I was panicing that the 10 courses might be too hard..its ok now..thanks a lot PinkPT and all ya guys.. :D

I think it'd be percentages; different places have different grading systems. They could view both too. But don't take my word on that. :P
