Crap. There is a possibility that I might move to Germany next year after I finish 8th grade. All of my friends that have moved there say its really nice but I dont want to go there... The language is ugly and Ive never liked Germany ><

But has anyone ever been? And if you have, what do you think about it?

I've been and it's brilliant. The chocolate is so cheap and the people are generally really friendly. Insane but friendly.

I had a friend who went to stay in germany for a while, and she loved it.

The people are very friendly, and not only is chocolate cheap, but coffee is cheap to! I shall ask her about it if you want!

Most people (esp. adults) can speak at least some English, so there isn't a definitive language barrier like, if you were moving to France.. Or The Netherlands.

I've been there, it's nice in the summer. -- As for the anti-war stuff, Germany isn't some place where the shadow of Hitler always covers them. They mostly don't think about it, and unless you actually bring it into conversations, no one will say a thing. Bring it up is probably a very bad anyhow. You'll probably get dirty looks for associating modern day germany with nazism. Hitler is in the past, and he should stay there is generally the attitude of most people.

You go to a foreign country you frikkin well learn the language.

Going to either Germany of Russia for History trip next year (Thingers crossed that I can afford it / Am still alive) So I imagine I'll be struggling with the language myself.
But Damnit, I will try!

I went there for the first time this year, and really really liked it there :) I know that visiting is different from actually living there, but I could imagine living there reasonably happily! All the little shops and yummy bakeries ... and lots of very friendly people who helped me out when I couldn't work out how to say something in German.

I actually rather love the German language too. Sure, it can sound harsh sometimes, but so can most languages. When you hear people using it day-to-day, it usually sounds quite soft - mainly due to the "ch" sounds I think. For example, "Can I have..." is "Kann ich habe...". I think the "ich" and "habe" sound a lot softer than the English equivalents.

Kinda off-topic, but apparently German people find English accents kinda "cute" ;)
