The dictionary definitions

Geek:
A person regarded as foolish, inept, or clumsy.
A person who is single-minded or accomplished in scientific or technical pursuits but is felt to be socially inept.
A carnival performer whose show consists of bizarre acts, such as biting the head off a live chicken.

Nerd:
A foolish, inept, or unattractive person.
A person who is single-minded or accomplished in scientific or technical pursuits but is felt to be socially inept.

So Geeks bite heads of of live chickens eh?

So that's what my one friend was talking about when I asked him to define nerd and geek.

Anyway, to me geek seemed to mean something along the lines of 'moronic freak' and nerd just meant someone who was very smart and/or obsessive in something.

Geeks I would define as people who're somewhat obsessed with computers, video games, Star Trek etc. but not necessarily smart.

Nerds make me think of super smart buried in books, really shy and quiet type of people.
