It wouldn't be good, nor bad, since you know, dead people don't have opinions. :P

(also, it's not just man-kind you're talking about here, it's ALL kinds. I wonder if a cockroach can survive the destruction of existence... Let's try it.)

You're all so remarkably calm about the potential of the end of existence. Well, let's all party for the next 20 years, just in case. :P

Was anyone else slightly disappointed that the particle accelerator looked like some sort of weird giant Happy Meal toy, rather than endless shiny titanium futuristic-ness? Just me, then.

Course there was also the chance the atmosphere would ignite when the first Atom bomb was used.
Or that a wave of Anti-matter would sweep away all of existance every time we fire up a Particle acelerator.

We gotta do it, or we'll never know.

Very true. Modern science deals with unknowns, dangerous ones, constantly. The chance of anything going wrong is incredibly tiny, but the amount of knowledge we could gain about the universe is tremendous.

Well, I feel slightly better knowing that it's only 10 to the negative 40. I take bigger risks than that everyday. But, with my risks it's only myself on the line.

That is the scientists thought about the void on the last episode of Doctor Who 2005 Season 2 and the UKers who have seen that episode all know what happened there.

As I recall, ended the Dalek threat "Once and for all (Ish)"
Soo... We're gonna wipe out the Daleks?
Cool! :D

What's the point of finding advancements for mankind if there's a possibility you'll destroy mankind in the process...

And to the person who said that atom bombs had a chance of setting the atmosphere on fire and etc, it's not like atom bombs are a fan favorite either...

Pbbbt, just because you don't like it doesnt make nuclear reactors the best way of producing energy.
One messup =/= make an unsafe energy.
Course nuclear weapons are another matter, but who cares.

For some reason, this just reminds me of the bobandgeorge quote

"Yeah, that way we don't have to flush"

I think its quite fascinating stuff really. I dont understand what is more important than expanding our knowledge. One never knows, perhaps what they learn will one day lead to something that can be incredibly useful to us, you can never predict something like that. I say let them experiment. Tons of money goes to things like war or even more trivial crap. Like my own province that spent hundreds of millions on "updating its image" by getting a new provincial logo designed and then having all signs and the such updated with it. Anyways, I just wanted to say I thought it was the coolest thing I'd heard in a long time when I read about it... right up there with those little roombas :D, and that new treatment for Parkinsons disease.

Fact: You are more likely to spontaneously combust than for this experiment to kill us all.

*FWOOSH*

Is that a bad sign? O.o

Jokes aside, it's a pretty neat idea. As for the marginal risk of planetary doom, well we'll just have to sit back and watch how it plays out.
