Last night, or school had a dance for 6th and 7th graders, which almost everybody went to. It just made me realize how a lot of 6th graders this year need a serious attitude adjustment.

There was a girl walking near me in the hallway, and I accidently bumped into her, and she yelled "THAT WAS SO RUDE!". I apoligized, and said I didn't do it on purpose, and she just rolled her eyes.

Let's see. Last year, when I was in 6th grade, I was shoved into walls, pushed into other people, and had my books knocked down by the older students. And I brush by this girl and she has a hissy fit.

I've also noticed that the 6th graders have been swearing a lot, at each other, and even at older students. They think it's "cool". They've also been attempting to "beat us up", even though they didn't do a very good job. A week or so ago, these two boys were shoving each other around in the hallway while I was trying to go to music class. I was going to be late, so I was trying to walk really fast past them, and the one boy actually shoved me into the other. He didn't even apoligize, he just went on down the hallway.

I have a friend in 6th grade, and I'm afraid that she's going to turn into one of those rude, snotty girls, too. After the dance, we were talking and she was talking about how more "stylish" the 6th graders were than the 7th graders, how she swears all the time when her mom isn't around, and her other friend (who was also there) was talking about how just because somebody was wearing Etnies (a brand of skater shoes), they were being posers. It was sickening, really. D:

This probably doesn't sound like a big deal, but to me it just doesn't feel right that my friends and other students are turning into drama queens. I definately did not act that way towards older students, or even students that were in my grade, and I don't remember people acting so rude when I was in 6th grade just last year. I've been trying to tell my friends, don't do this, people don't like it when you do this, but they just don't listen to me. D: It's just sad.

But Etnies are so cool. o_o

Some of the sixth graders were like this when I was in seventh grade. Girls I'd known since I was abour four hated me because I didn't become one of "them". Just remember, though, they're going to be the freshmen that the seniors hate in highschool.

I know. I love etnies shoes, my mom just won't let me get them. She thinks they're too expensive. D: I have a pair of Vans, though. I love them. XD

I don't want to pick on them, though, even though I was treated poorly last year.

I understand what you're talking about, the new generation or the "MTV Generation" is completely different from what I was when I was younger. When I was in Grade 6 I definately did not swear, I didn't fight with people, I didn't do anything. I was basically one of the most niave boy's you could meet. No one in my school was really focusing on boyfriend/girlfriend stuff, I mean, it was there but it was just a little thing. Nothing that big and I thought it was fun to talk about.

Now, we have girl's dressing in revealing clothes at younger ages, guys and girls are swearing, they're talking back to their parents and older peers, they're doing drugs/smoking, they are failing school and they don't care. It's ridiculous. The more older we get, the worse the younger generation gets.

When I did a Grade Nine retreat, I was the leader with a couple of my friends and we are all in Grade 12. I actually had to yell "Jesus loves you, stop swearing!" to some of these Grade Nine's to get it through their heads that it wasn't appropriate to swear on a RELIGIOUS retreat. I mean, c'mon!

The girls at my school are wearing really short skirts and shirts that are pushing the dress code. There have also been people at my school that had drugs in their locker, and my school brings police dogs in every once in a while to check (not while we're in school, so we don't know when they're coming so people can't sneak them out) and they've gotten in huge trouble. These are MIDDLE SCHOOLERS we're talking about. And some people are actually PROUD that they're failing. I'm a Straight-A student, and people think that just because you're smart you're a nerd. They also take advantage of you and make you do all of the work. :x

See, that's when you have to start acting like a mean smart person. If someone asks you for help, you can help them. But if someone starts making you do all the work, tell them you don't want too but you'll gladly help them but you won't do the work.

You don't need to help them, they should be looking at you as a priviledge if you say yes, if you say no, you don't lose anything.

I remember middle school being the exact same way when I was attending...and given I'm 24, that was quite some time ago. I remember thinking that the 6th graders were disgraceful when I was in 7th grade, and that surely my class didn't act like that. But it's all about perspectives. When you're the one doing something, you might think you're being funny or cool, but if you're an observer, it looks like the people involved are juvenile, mean, etc. Which, I'm not saying you were being mean or juvenile, but it's like that your cohorts were. Or that inside jokes you had with friends were construed as juvenile by the class above you as well.

You pretty much have to make a decision about what you're going to let bother you. I kind of walked around in a bit of a daze in middle school, ignoring what I didn't want to see (the mutilators, the kids on drugs or at least wanting to be, those failing gleefully, those underdressed, etc) and tried to focus on what was good, which frequently turned bad quickly. Then again, middle school is a time of kids really working towards that whole 'growing up' thing. It's amazing how you can be best friends one day, and the next, it's all over. and I don't mean for a week or two. I mean for good. I lost many friends in middle school because we were all maturing at different times, speeds, and ways. I matured into a responsible teen who took life seriously. Many of my other friends 'matured' (or devolved if you like) into party girls.

Things are going to continue changing. And you're probably going to notice these things in people you aren't around as much, especially that class below you. In all honesty, your grade was probably very similar, you just didn't see it because you were too deeply immersed in that grade.

I just wish you luck in continuing to work at just being yourself, and to avoid letting others opinions of you get to you in anyway, nor the actions of others force you to change. That is much easier said than done, but good luck with it anyway.

As for Etnies shoes, they make some nice ones, but they're not as resilient to wear and tear as they could be. My mate Seph's fell apart after a year, and he's not even very active...as in...he's a bit of a lazy git.

I love freshmen. They act like they're so cool, but half of them haven't hit puberty yet. :D

:roflol:

It was hilarious last night to see them trying to dance. My friends and I were just watching (we can't dance- we would embarrass ourselves XD) and we kept cracking up when we saw sixth graders trying to "dance" with their "date". I met up with my friend and she said that some girls were doing something to impress the boys (nothing nasty) but I'm not sure if it's appropriate to post or not.

They're trying a bit too hard to act cool, if you ask me.

I've got an idea. I'll get a yardstick or something, and go to your school and walk around smacking all of the little brats with it. That'll work.

wow... that part about the etnies.. sure some people might, but i wear vans, its the only shoe brand that i've ever worn, just because i like the way they feel and such... but uh.. yea.. same at my school.. this kid like shoved me into a door handle when im older then him and twice his size.. i think its just because they want to be popular and beating people up is a way to get noticed, even tho profanity isnt really cool.. sure i say crap, but i dont call people crap, i just say it when i miss the bus or something..

If some little punk shoves you I say just shove him back lol.
I know what you mean about freshmens acting like bigshots, i'm a senior, and all the freshmen here try to play it cool... It's just a matter of time untill someone puts them in ther place.

I've worn my etnies for over a year and they are still intact, but then again, I don't skate any more. And they are most certainly not poser shoes :P

It's not just the younger people. A lot of my classmates act that way...

But yeah, when you think about it, you realize a lot of the underclassmen or whatever you want to call it try and act cool and tough around us because they want us to think they're cool.

Which they're not.

All the girls here are wearing these skimpy, horrible skirts and blouses, even if they are overweight and even if they are barely eleven. It's disgusting.

(I'm more for the Converses, because I'm pretty inactive and I don't skate. But I like that type of music.)

Aren't Sixth Graders about.. 11 years old?

If so, they really need an attitude adjustment. I mean, right now, I'm an arrogant, selfish SoaB, but at least I had respect for the people older than me when I started out at school.
