Why in some forgin countrys do they eat HORSES!? It's just barbiac! It's unforgivable! there are some animals that are ment to be used as food but horses are NOT one of those! I'm glad in the USA we don't eat horse meat. I mean how could someone kill a animal that is so graceful?? Image

There are no animals that are "food animals", only animals that we eat and consider to be in existance only to provide us food. Really they are animals just like any other animal. Unless it's endangered, it's really fair game (though I would never touch horse meat).

Now if people started eating pandas...

It's hardly barbaric to the people involved. Horses were used as food far before they were used for anything else. Horses the way they are viewed by most North Americans are a luxury. Horses in other countries are used to make money, via the fact that they work, or that they're used for milk/hide/bones/meat etc. It's hardly any more barbaric then using any other animal for food.
And considering that this forum is a world wide forum, you must understand that not everyone will share your view. I'm not trying to attack you, or your belief that it's wrong to eat horses, but just trying to say that not everyone will agree with you.

And i'll have to go a step further. It's culture dependant on whether or not an animal is a "food" animal. Many groups of people will not eat certain types of animals, but it is indeed impossible to put everyone under one single spectrum when it comes to what is edible and what is not.

I eat beef and wear leather while some cultures veiw them to be sacred.
I have a dog as a pet and such a thing is not thought of in some cultures, where dogs are considered very vile creatures, good for nothing but running in packs, attacking people, and being a pest making messes and getting into things.

I think deer are beautiful but I like the meat. I've even eaten squirrel and it isn't that bad really. I don't eat it often, and some people think they are nothing more than rats with fluffy tails.

Basically we eat what we are taught to eat and enjoy. I think it is sad that someone would look at a dog, or a horse and think "Yummy, let's kill and eat it." But others would probably say the same thing about me and my love for beef.

And well, I don't like the thought of eating a snail or an insect, but I don't mind eating clam chowder or shrimp. Someone might think a clam is nasty or a shrimp if they'd never tried one. Maybe bugs and snails are good? I wouldn't know.

But I've never eaten a horse and I'd turn one down in all but the most dire of circumstances.

I cannot fathom why someone would think eating a cow or a pig was any different from eating a horse or a dog. And actually, the US DOES produce horse meat. Many people eat it. Just like many people eat pigs and chickens and cows.

To me, it's all barbaric.

* IE; I dont need a shotgun, two grenades and some weapons grade plutonium to get it in the oven

Indeed. I've always thought that surely eating one animal isn't more wrong than eating another? Perhaps I'd draw the line with monkeys, since they're so close to our own species (but hey, monkey species eat each other!). And as Kugetsu said, endangered species should be avoided too... *thinks of the Japanese whaling :-S*

It's only due to our upbringing that cows, pigs, chickens and sheep are seen as "accepted" meat. Cows are sacred in some countries, and pigs dirty. They'd see us as barbaric ;)

How can you say that some animals are meant to be eaten? No, they're not. You don't think horses can be eaten but you think other animals can? That's really silly and close-minded.

Yah, cuz even though you might have to look closer, cows and piggies and chickens and stuff are pretty too! :D They may not be graceful and stuff, but they're ky00t!

I really don't think its nice to eat animals either, cuz, you know.. its living stuff.. and.. then.. you know.. you.. eat it. And thats icky. Atleast to me. Then again, you're talking to an extreme animal-loving veggietarian (yeah I know I spelled it wrong, I meant to).. :O

Though I won't deny, eating horsies is mean. Cause you're right, they are beautiful creatures, but just as beautiful as the rest of the animals. :)

While this is not the case any longer (at least to my knowledge) there was a time when horse meat was put in dog food. Why? because it was cheap. People have also eaten horse meat as well as dog and many other animals, including monkey.

I don't, for the most part, eat meat except for the occasional severe hamburger craving, and I have been a total vegan in the past. But even if we humans stopped eating all meat, our pets would still need to eat it. I know cats cannot be converted to being complete vegetarians, they're carnivores. It's not just their nature, it's their need. Dogs can be vegetarians, but it's not the easiest thing to do.

Hamburgers and hot-dogs have horse meat too.

Believe me, I love horses too and I would never eat something that says '100% horse meat', but trying to make people stop eating horse meat would be like trying to make them stop eating eggs, or wearing leather. There are people who don't use any product made of/by animals (veganists), but there are more people who don't.

Glad the USA doesn't eat horse meat? They do. They produce it and eat it.

Have you ever been to a horse auction? 3/4ths of the horses go for meat usually. Its not like they ship them off to France for it to be produced.

Some placed warship cows. Some countries eat cows. Some people have dogs for pets. Some people eat dogs. I love horses, work with horses, own horses, have always had horses. I would never eat a horse. Some people do, but it doesnt make it barbaric.

I personally think it's silly to freak out over somebody eating a hamburger. People use the argument that we're animals too so we shouldn't be "harming our brethren", but cheetahs and lions eat other animals. Like it or not, we're at the top of the food chain, and I'm not going to give up eating bacon just because pigs have cute curly tails.

I thought there was a brand out there that had all the stuff they needed. I know they need some special thing, like only in fish or something, but I think one vegetarian, maybe two, cat diet has it.

Though I will admit it is hard to get them to eat the stuff.. I tried once..
