LOL. It's a tradition thing. Officers and senior enlisted always wore swords as a sign of leadership, since riflemen and normal soliders usually have bayonets fitted onto their rifles for hand to hand combat. But it is a tradition for Marines that get married to cut the first slice of cake with their sabres. ^_^
