Anything and everything goes in here... within reason.

I don't believe I've seen this mentioned yet (or maybe I'm just forgetful), but those of age and size could consider donating blood. There will likely be shortages (as there already are) in the blood supply. I think my husband and I will go on Thursday to give blood, assuming he doesn't have another job interview. As we're both unemployed, we can't afford to donate money, and we aren't packrats at all, so we don't have any old clothes, etc to donate. But this is something that we can do quite easily, and it really could make a difference, hurricane or not. Maybe this will even be my very first successful blood donation! ^^; First time my iron was low, second time they couldn't get enough blood. Maybe third time will be the charm.

We have had so many blood drives in my area and I always wanted to donate. I've thought of doing it recently since my mom had to have two units each time she had complications with here surgery and was taking in the ER for hemorraging. I just can't seem to get past the whole needle thing despite me wanting to do it. I thought of doing it for the hurricane when I saw a news thing on tv about a victim of katrina that needed blood and they were low on it but, man I just can't. I loved needles at one point, loved shots and watching the needle go in when they did like that tb test where the skin pops up (I know sick). Now I'm all squeamish about it and can't seem to deal with the idea of donating. It's a really good thing to do in my opinion regardles of the hurricane and such, it really could save someone's life.

I am terrified of needles. Truly and utterly terrified. But about a year ago, I decide to give it a try (I have so many phobias that affect my life, I decided to do something about one of them). My husband was with me to talk me through everything, and I managed to do it. Even if you're afraid, you might want to give it another thought. Just make sure you wait until you're ready to do it. Actually...the first time I finally had the courage, my iron was too low. I had worked so hard to build up the courage to do it, that I had to go to the car immediately after while my husband gave blood, because I burst into tears from the emotional letdown. I actually think that reaction helped me a lot when I went in the next time and they were able to attempt to get blood.
But, if you can't do it, you can't do it. There are always other ways to help out, after all. ^_^v
