Part of history is embracing what happened.

It would be like saying that the current White House was built only because the Canadians defeated the Americans in the War of 1812 and burned down the original, therefore the new one belongs to Canada.

Its an amusing idea, but I'd leave it at that.

Its a bit silly to expect Stone Henge to be "returned". Thats like saying that if I prove the bricks in your house are made from English substances that England can therefore lay claim to your home. I know Im stretching things a bit, as your home ( though Im sure its lovely ) isnt really ( I imagine ) an historical landmark with staggering cultural significance.

But then again, I didnt start the sillyness.

Its a big bunch of rocks. Part of its charm is that its been there for donkeys years. Everyone was happy with it like that. Especially the people who put it there I would imagine. If the welsh are that proud of the work, why would they try to undo it?

Just wander up and carve "Made in Wales" on it and leave it at that, Matt ;)

Disclaimer : The above statement is a joke. Jim, and by extension PPT in no way advocate, condone, or encourage the desecration/damage/vandalism of any national treasures. Though we may have a bit of a laugh about it if it wasnt too serious and done in a comical manner.

Why not leave it in England, not have to chart precisely, lug, and replace precisely, and erect some type of explanation monument/museum near it, explaining its Welsh roots as well as other tidbits of cultural significance? There probably is one of those already, but.. :D

Can you prove that Stonehenge was pointless? No, you can't. For all we know, Stonehenge could have been a palace (I'm not saying it was, mind you). And you're saying the pyramids had a definite use. However, if we didn't know the Egyptians workshipped gods so much you might have said otherwise.

To be honest the pyramids when you actually study them are fairly pointless. They normally consist of a few tunnels and a burial chamber. Yes they're interesting, but so is Stonehenge.
Nobody actually knows who built Stonehenge, there is countless speculation, but the thing about the druids is, according to the TV show I watched awhile ago on Stonehenge on Discovery channel (I watch documentaries in my spare time), the druids came to Britain far too late.
So it was probably a culture before that.

Didn't read your post, would of saved me thr trouble of what I just wrote, but I have to strongly agree these monuments are very pointless:

Pretty much all large ancient structures are pointless and derived because of somones wealth and un toppable greed and big headedness, that fits perfectly in the case of the pyramids, yeah it was a engineering feat of great preportions especially for the time, but for what!? So one guy can lay in there dead with some dumb hope of his spirit rising to the heavens.

And stonehenge should just be left as is, if its been there so long just keep the darn thing there, poeple always have to stick there long giraffed sized necks out, and hopefully get them smashed. This is a stupid fued, leave the dumb monument their, where its been for thousands of years. If the english want to see stonehenge take a plane to whales.

That point as you said is... kinda different, The second part sounded spot on though. Just like to point out this Archdruid doesnt speak for all of us some of us may agree with him but moving it would be a shame. Therefore I propose we do not move Stonehenge but we extend Wales, Something a little like this http://img7.photobucket.com/albums/v18/sapphires13/see.jpg

For those of you unaware I'm joking.

And my names Mat (with one T) Jim =:0p

Credit to Chass for the map.

The pyramids were used to bury Kings and Pharoahs. Let's not quibble. Whether they recognised a particular deity or not isn't important.

I don't think it should be returned- it is an important symbol in several religions. People don't tear down churches without consequence- so sacrelige against smaller religions shouldn't be tolerated either.

It did have a point, and according to several smaller religions, it will again.
What would the other guys want with a pile of rocks, anyway?

Since they're not actually sure who exactly built Stonehenge, why are people suggesting they "return it" to Wales? Sure, the rocks may have come from Wales.. But who's to say that Welsh people built it? For all we know aliens could have just been bored and decided to prop up a few souviner rocks from Welsh in Britan. :P If that's how it happened, shouldn't we return the souviners to the aliens then? (Mind you, I'm not saying that's how it was formed.. Just an example)

Leave Stonehenge where it is. It served a purpose before, and it might again.

(I watched something on the Discovery Channel, oh about two summers ago, and it said that the location and structuring of Stonehenge wasn't random at all and that it lined up with some constillation or another and how it effected the farming seasons. Rather like how the Great Pyramids of Giza line up with the three stars that make up Orion's belt.. Though I can't quite remember what that positioning was about..)

I posted a link in the first post that would thoroughly awnser youur question. They have found remains of seven people in stonehenge. Doing tests on the teeth proved that they were from Wales. As they were there when stonehenge was being built then it helps the case that people from Wales helped to build stonehenge, Or the people of Wales built stonehenge fully by themselves.

I also find it amusing that though I have not stated my opinion on this topic, people assume that I should wish to see them in Wales. I think this is probably because I am Welsh.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.

I can understand comparing dental records from some recent event. But a potentially multi-thousand year old tooth for a specific nationality? I didn't know that was possible! Do Asians have different teeth from Caucasians? How do they know that it wasn't just a bunch of Hungarians with really bad teeth that built Stonehenge? (Now I don't want to say anything about the state of dental care in the UK, but...)Return Stonehenge to the Hungarians!

It might have to do with the petrified grains that are stuck in the teeth and how the teeth are worn. Basically, they trace the type of food the dead people consumed to where the food is from. Yeah. I watched some show on the Discovery Channel on forensics for people dead for a long time.

Ok, but how do they know that they built Stonehenge. What if it was just a bunch of Welsh tourists that fell into a hole and forgot to climb out?

It's all a great conspiracy to deter our attention from the Egyptians who are actually aliens like that scifi movie with James Spader suggests.
