I'm saying in general thats probably what would be a best bet.
I really don't know how much experience you do have, and I can't evaluate you as a rider, thusly I can only say based on what I know, that would probably be a good bet.

Just start looking for horses when you're actually able to own one again, and i'm sure you'll find something to suit your needs.

I am a pretty good rider, but I havent had any experience jumping.

As soon as you start searching for a horse that would be good for jumping, the dollars go up. If you're serious about it and it's something you'd be willing to invest time and money into, i'd suggest a morgan or even a crossbred.
But since you are an inexperienced jumper, you don't want to be training a horse to jump while you're learning yourself. That becomes dangerous. If you're dead serious about doing jumping, find a trainer who will help teach you and then ask if they'll come look at jumping prospects with you. Thats what I did and I ended up with a 17'3 Hanovarian. Unfortunately I only owned him for three months and he coliced and I never went back into Jumping after that. (Never had the chance to be honest due to my own health.) But... *Shrug*. I showed with my arab before that, and I found that I couldn't continue on with my arab to go where i'd wanted too. So I had to get the Hanovarian. But he was a 8500 dollar hose. And that was cheap for the level I was at. *shrugs*

So quarter horses are pretty expensive? :\

Quarter horses are stock breeds. Generally they're not jumping horses, but some do, and some do quite well. They're good with beginners, which is why i'd been suggesting them.
However, some quarter horses, because they're stock breeds and work with cattle and do cutting and barrel racing... and ground racing can go for hundreds of thousands of dollars.
It really depends on the horse you're going to get.
Again I can't really guide you on what breed to buy other then to say stay away from hotblooded horses for the first while.
If you're serious about jumping start looking around for a Morgan or just a grade horse thats got jumping experience. A horse that knows how to jump and is calmer and older is often a great choice. Horses that are toted as Pony Club or 4H prospects often are very sound, friendly and have quite a bit of experience doing various things, including jumping.

wow thats neat that your getting a horse are you gonna live on a farm or ranch or something?... or are you just gonna keep it in a nearby stable.

I'm no expert, but my darling Miakoda is a Peruvian Paso, and she's the sweetest thing I've ever met. (She's a paint--so pretty!)

Technically she can't be classified as a paint if she's a Paso. She'd have pinto coloring, not paint. Paint is technically a breed as there is a standard and breeding and whatnot. Pinto is just the color. Bleh.

Arabians aren't nasty. My Smoky is the least nasty horse I know. He's never bit, or kicked, and he's got better ground manners then a lot of non arab horses I know. He's just skittish under saddle, and terrified of men.

Well I guess it depends on the arab if they are nasty or not...

Yeah...no kidding inrun. Paint/pinto whatever. Sorry. Figured that wold be a tad obvious since I'd already said her breed and whatnot. ^^

And yeah, not all arabians are nasty. But they're generally a lot more temperamental than other breeds.

I've honestly never heard of a paso jumping.
Ever.
I've heard of them doing stock work in South america though, which is what they were bread to do. Stock work... and comfort riding. They're nice horses.
