wouldnt work on me, ive seen all sorts of stuff that goes into our food, some of it that can actually kill you (coca cola syrup is a highly hazardous material and recquires a license in itself to transport, kinda kills alot of stuff)

ive not had my wisdom teeth out, if i even have them (think i do, no space for anything to grow in my jaw anymore) so im either lucky or weird, weird probably seeing as im one of few people to have three sets of teeth.

You're quite lucky then. My medication started to wear off after the second tooth and I was crying/hyperventilating, so they wouldn't give me anymore. I could feel everything by the time they got to the fourth tooth.
I didn't spend too much time dwelling on the pain. I think I slept for the first week or so afterwards. It was when I couldn't sleep anymore that it started to get to me. Especially when my tongue and mouth weren't numb anymore. I had cuts all over my tongue from the doctor as well as a huge gash on the side of my lip.
I did discover the wonders of mashed potatoes and hot dogs, though. It was my favorite food for about two months. I don't think I could properly chew with my back teeth for quite some time after the teeth were taken out, though.

I hope you feel better soon. {The swelling isn't so bad, it's the attempting to clean out the "sockets" that is annoying.}

It sounds so painful to have them removed. Arrgh don't they pull it from deep inside your gums?...I hate going to the dentist or doctor. I even bit the dentist when I was little .

Speaking of dentists, are you suppose to sleep when they put you under the gas? because I try to stay awake but the gas makes me drowsy.

I find wisdom teeth (also known as third molars) to be a complete waste. Why should there be 4 teeth that come at such a late age, and most people's mouths don't even have room for?
I had mine cut out when I was 16. It was horrible.
Fact: getting them cut out = worse than just getting them pulled out.
If they've managed to at least partially erupt from the gums, then they can be pulled, if they're just stuck underneath and compacted or growing the wrong way, etc. They'll have to be cut out, which is just terrible. They cut open your gums, break the teeth and dig out the pieces, then sew you up.
Your mouth is left sore, bleeding, swollen, and full of stitches. The pain medicine they prescribed me was a waste, as I was too nauseated to keep them down. I spent that week mostly in bed. I couldn't even chew with my front teeth, because the back of my mouth was so swollen, that my front teeth couldn't come down together in a bite. It was a week of soft food.
I felt loads better when the stitches came out. Apparently the dentist had done the stitches rather strangely, the nurse told me about it when I went back to have them removed. He'd pretty much sewn my gums to the inside of my cheeks. No wonder I was so swollen.
I can still feel the 4 tiny scars in the back of my mouth, lol.

As bone structure is something that runs in families: if you're parents/older siblings had trouble with their wisdom teeth, then you probably will too.
Some (lucky!) people have no problems at all with wisdom teeth, and they come out just fine.

That is usually their intention when they give you the gas. ;P

The gas relaxes you, the injections in your mouth numb you, and the injection/IV in your arm puts you to sleep.

Lest everyone who hasn't had their wisdom teeth pulled flee in terror, I should point out it isn't always that bad, although obviously it sometimes is.

I had mine out when I was 16. They were impacted, so it was one of the cut-into-gums, break-up-teeth, sew-up-gums deals.

They gave me an IV of Valium and other soothing substances. They stuck the IV in (that hurt) and I recall sitting in the chair thinking, "Wow, I hope they wait until I'm out of it to start on my teeth." Then the oral surgeon came up to the chair and said, "We're all done, everything went great!" I literally don't even recall being out of it, let alone anything about the procedure.

They gave me codine :mmm, codine: and I spent the rest of the day zoned out on the couch with ice on my face watching TV. (News reports on the first World Trade center bombing, actually, which happened that same day. Very surreal when you're on codine.)

Luckily codine doesn't make me ill, which I know is a problem for some people. I had the thing done on a Friday morning, and by Sunday I was basically back to normal. I mean, I probably still wasn't chewing anything especially hard with my back teeth, but I was up, about, and pain-free.

So it's not always a horror show. Maybe it's better when you go to someone who specializes in it? (I went to an oral surgeon to have it done, not my regular dentist.) I'm just annoyed that, because they had to break them up, I didn't get to keep any teeth.

Poor girl! I hope your gums heal quickly and you take in as much nutrition as you can! Hopefully you will recover soon or at least they will give you less pain.



If you're lucky you won't get them or even if they develop within the gums, they won't grow anymore and come out. I'm utterly dreading it because I took an X-ray and I have two forming. I already had four pre-molars taken out because my jaw was too small to allow even my final molars out. I'm praying really hard that my wisdom teeth won't come out or at least there will be space (as the idea of pulling out my pre-molars was to make space). Unfortunately, it looks like there's no space and they're going to come out.

They grow far, far back in your gums and most people don't have the space for them. If they do, they can't brush them properly because it's so far back and they end up gagging. Then cavity comes along and that hurts too. The roots of the wisdom teeth are fused together into one gigantic one, I think. (I saw an example, but I'm not sure if that was just a fluke.) Sometimes the dentist can't take them out so people have to go to hospital to get them taken out. It's literally an operation.

I've never had a dentist put me under gas, although I've had numbing injections. Gas only ever seems to occur in the hospital, and if it's an anasthetic, it usually puts people to sleep (which is the idea, so they feel less pain and are more relaxed). Or maybe it was the injections they gave me, but I think it was actually both. It's different here, I suppose. *makes a face* I hate hospitals.

Chass, blame wisdom teeth on evolution. I see even less reason why I should have them. *tinkers with back of gums*

I feel your pains. Getting four regular perminant teeth out was a horrific experience. Unlike wisdom teeth, they don't knock you out so you're fully conscious throughout the entire ordeal. The gas didn't help me relax one bit. It just made me woozy. Having several needles in your mouth is not fun. It's probably because I'm a wuss, kicking and crying. I think that gas made me a bit confused, so the pain didn't help.

I had a tooth extracted, and cow did it really hurt! Its like they are pulling your mouth out!

because long long ago, are jaws were significently bigger, and we actually had to get our own food in the shape of a 20foot tall mammoth.

besides without inconveniences like wisdom teeth we probably wouldnt be seeing in a full spectrum of colours right now, be thankful for the mutations, some are a pain indeed (stupid apendix), others are life savers (yay for colour vision)
