Medusa, I am a gift basket junkie! I love nothing better than going to the store, finding fun, useful and pretty things then finding a nice basket and making my own up.

That's what I like about them too. With the added fact that each item itself isn't too expensive, you're selecting each thing specially and there's likely to be a few items they eventually like, even if I make a few mistakes with the others.

Can anyone think of a gift that is good and pratical for an appartment but still has a personal touch to it?

Hmmm... maybe a small pot plant in a nice pot, preferrably one that won't be easy to kill?

I also liked Amethyst and Anoohilator's suggestions, you could always get a nice picture frame, purchase a print (scenery is always quite neutral and if your markets are anything like ours you should be able to find a few stores) and put the print in the frame.

I suppose it comes down to what you think will have a personal touch, afterall, you know your teacher better than we do :)

Alright thank for your help. I bought a nice picture album as well as a small painting of a sunset at a beach for $10.

My final question is, is it best to give the gift when I personally go to see the teacher for help tomorrow, after that teacher's exam on friday or after my last exam next week on the very last day of school. What would leave the most impact?

Thanks again for everyone's advice. :)

I would think last day of school would have the most impact.

That's a good point. Although it could be less impact for 2 reasons, 1) other kids give gifts on the last exam of school and 2) it wouldn't be a normal time I would see that teacher unlike a personal extra help session even though it's not the last day. I may be wrong. Any other opinions?

I guess the best time to give the gift is the last time you know you will see them. Isn't school over for summer break already?

Elbac! It's nice to see you here again. :)

From personal experience (in grade 8, the whole class surprised our French teacher who was retiring), give it to your teacher on the last possible moment you can see them. Though this isn't exactly like my case, I'd say that they'll appreciate the sentiment of you going to see them on your own time. So...I'd say the very last day.

Well I gave the gifts today, success! I choose really thoughtful gifts, and wrote a nice card. Today was the last official day of school. I had to wait for the perfect momment to give the gifts as there were still exams. The two hugs were worth it. Thanks for the advice everyone! :D
