When was the last time a New Zealander was represented in American media? That's almost as rare as Houston being mentioned.
Numerous shows have a one off 'go to NZ' episode. A more so since Lord of the Rings. Apparently it's full of Australians. Once some show even had a spontaneous NZ transfer student that was female and busty and blonde and Australian.

Well Shortland street was set in New Zealand so I'd be gutted to find out the actors were just australian 
I think they were OK though...

The accent thing can get worse. We used to have a nice man from russia always come into work, who clearly sounded russian, and people used to think he was british.

I meant American shows with 'New Zealanders' or 'New Zealand' in them. I would suppose the majority of Shortland Street is made up of New Zealanders. Eww...icky soaps with 3500+ episodes...
