"divide by 2"? Either I used some sort of other method, or I did something wrong. I based my answer on the measures of the resulting triangles.

Agh, I tried 19, but I couldn't figure it out.

Oh, and the cheese problem was nifty. I didn't have the distance formula on my calc (Agh stupid Calcsys), so I just estimated, but I think I was right.

Oh, and the arithmetic sequence one, where you're finding which term is solvable, was cool.

I didn't use the triangles, I used the measure of the arc cut off by the angle.

And for the cheese problem... distance formula? I used the perpendicular line.

The arithmetic sequence one was a giveaway XD

Wow, a year has passed already? I remember taking this last year (as a grade 11 taking the 12 exam, just for kicks). I did manage to get into the AIME with a 104, but only got a 2 on it. And it's out of 15...heh.

An early congrats to those who'll be writing the AIME. I'm sure there's gotta be some of you out there.

Well, yes, I did the same, and made a triangle with it.

Helped me enough.

... don't you have to take the 12 when you're in 11th grade?
12's better anyway. I've been taking it since... at least 7th or 8th grade.
I got... 3 my first time taking the AIME and 5 the second? Something like that. I just barely made it the last two years, but I think I did better this year. So maybe I'll do well on the AIME and make it to the USAMO? :P Heh, like I'd be able to get anything on it even if I did.

I hate to be a thread necromancer, but the AIME is tomorrow. I was one of two people in my school who made it (my score was 102). Good luck everyone!

EDIT: Did I say tomorrow? I meant Wednesday.

First sitting was a few weeks ago, second sitting is wednesday :)

I'm taking it wednesday as well; I would've taken it first sitting, but that happened to be the same day as another math contest, so we convinced the school to get it for the second sitting so I wouldn't have to take two big math tests the same day :P 'Course, also on wednesday for me is the dress rehearsal for my band/choir concert all afternoon. So I'm not going to be at any of my classes XD. Which is good, because I don't have to worry about getting any homework done for wednesday, so I can actually get some sleep tuesday night :P

So how did everybody do? I answered 8 questions total. I was completely confident in 4 of them, 3 I was unsure about, and one was an educated guess. Still, I think I did alright.

And just when you think you can do maths, NMC comes along.

I couldn't find the pdf of the 2007 version yet, so here's a sample problem from this year:
NMC 2007, #3 wrote:
Alice and Bob are playing a game. The number 102007 is written on the board; players can make a move by performing one of the following operations:

1. Erase a number, x, from the board, and replace it with positive non-zero integers a and b such that x = ab.
2. Erase one or two of the same numbers on the blackboard.

A player who cannot make a move loses the game. Given that Alice starts by making the first move, and both players play optimally, who will win?

Will you stop with the honour stuff?

I answered 10, and got 8 right. (heh, the two I missed were the first two). It might possibly be enough to make the usamo, I'm not sure. I hope it is, even though I'd probably get, like, a 2 :P

NMC does indeed look difficult.

Congrats, Pipsqueeek. The two at my school who took it got only a couple each.
