See, Hong Kong has sensible trains. The doors actually detect if something is stuck there and reopen. Canada should get trains like that.

I'm glad that you are safe.

Yeah, most subway doors have sensors that tell if they aren't closed properly, and will re-open and try again.

Same with almost all elevators - I've never known an elevator built within the last 60 years that didn't at least have those rubber bumpers in the doors.

Unfortunately for me, there is no automatic sensor that makes the doors re-open. It's a stupid system.

But I appreciate the sentiment, however, I just wanted to post this to make sure you guys know not to run onto a train which is just about leaving. However, I'm sure you all know. I apparently didn't. Heh.

Back on topic: didn't people on the subway try to get help for you, or were they just staring?

Just staring at me like I was crazy. Coincidentally, on my Psychology exam this very thing is called the "bystander effect" which is when individuals see a person in trouble and do nothing about it because there are a lot of people around to take responsibility.

That sounds scary, Ammer! I'm glad you survived! Near death experiences aren't very nice *gives you a big warm cuddly bear hug*

I tend not to help because I don't want to get blood and gore on my dress shirts.

This just adds to my list of reasons why I don't like the subway. Glad you're okay though.

And that's why they have signs everywhere saying "please stand clear of the closing doors" :P

OMG! I'm glad you're alright, Ammer. I was terrified just reading about it. =/

Yeah, I'm the same with elevators... unless I'm right there to see the doors open I don't like getting in them, even if someone presses the "open door" button. When they do that, I'll go in and keep an eye on the door, ready to leap in if it starts to close, heh.

Thanks for the kind words, aside from Inrun (Give up, I'm just too stealth-like for you).

I'm alright, but in all seriousness, this topic reminds of Twinkle's near-death squirrel experience.

Best. PPT. Topic. Ever.

Eek- the elevators at my school are like that. Of course, they usually close on people because not everyone can fit in the elevator and OF COURSE people try to do so anyway even if there are already 15 people with huge stuffed backpacks crammed in the 5x5 space. >_>

Well, aside from the almost-being-murdered-by-squirrels thing. :/

Speaking about elevators there are some elevators at Elephant & Castle Tube station in London that have a announcement saying "Please do not obstuct the doors" when someone tries to get into the elevator at the last second due the sensor though to me it sounds like the announcement is saying "Please do not destuct the doors".

Elevators and Underground train doors should have sensors for health and safety reasons though I believe the problem is funding as the money has to come from somewhere to upgrade them and not every place (and company) that has elevators and train doors has the money to do so.

The important thing that is that Ammer is still alive and well. *Hugs Ammer*

Buy cheaper dress shirts. Do they have an NBC over there? They sell really cheap shirts.

At least you have the elevators; only disabled folks and teachers have access to the elevators here. (It'a really stupid, too!) Although, considering that they only have 1 elevator, it's not even worth that.

We have two elevators- one for teachers, one for students (mainly 'cause my school has 7 floors+basement, plus two sort-of floors). Technically, we're not allowed to use the student elevator this year, because of the school being renovated floor by floor and thus the construction workers need to use it, but no one cares. ;D

BTW, you may not want to quote me as 'Alex'- remember, there is actually a (very <3) member here with this name; don't want to cause confusion. :P
