It's dead, devoid of anything but the most basic forms of life.

Really? How and why is that happening?

It basically amounts to a Neutron star (the possible outcome of a collapsed star. Think a failed black hole with an escape velocity of 1/2 C) exploding for whatever reason (Colliding with another one usually, but there are apparently spacial Quakes too, but that is news to me) Which causes a massive Gamma radiation (I think it's gamma anyway) explosion.
Usually it will just sweep across a local area but every now and then one will be big enough to engulf a galaxy.

A relatively small gamma ray burst (Ten seconds) Annihilated some 98% of life on earth about half a billion years ago, to give you an example.

All in all, very nifty find.
*booming voice* SO NOW YOU KNOW...

The moment we figure out higher dimensional travel and a form of an ansible, humanity will all but abandon Earth.

Why sit around waiting for our own planet to die when you can be busy polluting the rest of the universe?

That. Thought. is. Phenomenal! Let's go pollute the rest of the galaxy :)

Truth.. that deserves a sig quote.

Cos otherwise we sit here and die.
Better to be out spreading across reality like a malignant canker and die than to die on Earth.
I guess o_O

I dunno, my desire for mankind to spread comes from my desire to be G-D emperor of mankind, so I'm far from the person to ask on the morality of it.

We can find fun, creative ways to pollute even the trickiest of environments!

Who's up for figuring out how to get billboards to orbit inside Saturn's rings?

Easy, the problem would be putting super-massive plasma screen TV's within Saturn.
Hmmm.

If you figure it out, just put that Cnigular dropped call commercial where the woman gets the flowers from her husband on repeat. Make sure the volume is all the way up so that "AAuUoOoHhH" noise she makes reverberates throughout the universe. :roflol:

I was gonna use the Nokia ringtone as mankind's warcry.

dehneneneh dehnenenenenehhhh denenenehh nehnehnehnenenehhh.
