Okay, carrying on from your ideas (I'm a pessimist, I like 'em ) We can safely assume that much of the local population is pretty much hosed, although I can imagine small pockets of resistance (in such a large city there is bound to be someone with some kind of training in defensive maneuvers, as well as access to weapons of one form or another -I don't see them hiding out for long mind you, but sit yourself in the attic with a SLR for a while and you'll do fine short term) Not to mention that I don't honestly think that the entire world will go OMG ZEDS! and Run around like headless chickens. alot yes, but I'm sure Someone will have an idea.

Anyway, going by Rage we can assume little-to-no higher brain functions from the Infected (attracted to light, movement, but not to obvious bolt-holes) And I'm just going to ignore mr "Track the kids through London" because that was dumb.

England atleast, they use heavy body armour and riot shielding with Batons, I assume America is similar?
Well, I don't see the Infected being much of a match for a squad of these guys, The virus is transmitted via bodily fluids (Principally, Blood and Saliva) So they will be relatively safe as long as they are able to keep their heads and receive support pretty sharpish (Face plates smash, humans tire..)

Righty, main problem now would be that there is little to no control, with what is left being surrounded and eroded, so we call in the National guard / T.A.
First port of call is quarantine, Ive no idea how big Seattle is in millage, but I'll go by something akin to Manchester, so we are looking at a damned big force required...
Yeah, pretty much hosed in the long run, up until the point that control is totally broken down and a decimation order is issued.

Basically it comes down to this, can the infection be cordoned off (Through military might or Geography say) and are we willing to risk killing vast swathes of country to stop it.
Personally? Yes, in the choice of losing a million to save the rest of the world those million better start praying I get another idea.
