That's the first time I ever heard of this. Sounds interesting, though I'd have trouble keeping quiet for more than twenty minutes without a PS2/computer/something to do. =P

I haven't heard of a Day of Silence in this respect.

In my school, we sometimes have individual classes that decide to raise money for charity by having a kind of "Day of Silence". We really call it "sponsored silence" because it's only during the school day. I think they've changed it recently so that students may talk during classes since the teachers got annoyed with having a potential third of the class not talking. Out of classes though, they have to be silent. My own form never chose to do anything like that so I've never participated in it. As for the money they raise, we have various charities we regularly donate money to, three local and three international. They're mostly to do with prevention of animal cruelty and providing for needy people in second or third world countries, especially for children.

The most I've ever done was taken part in a minute's silence for tragedies such as 9/11 and the Russian terrorist attack. That was out of respect, not campaigning for a cause.

It sounds pretty cool though. I'd like to take part in it if there was one in my school. The causes seem to be more or less ones that I agree with to an extent, or at least have an interest in even if I don't agree.

I haven't heard of a "Day Of Silence" in this context. But it seems like a really good idea, I might try it one day. I'd probably forget at one point and accidently say something though. :(

I've heard of them before, and I have actually seen some people doing them.

I may not always agree with their views and opinions on the subject they are protesting, but I can definitely tolerate it since I prefer silent protest over the alternative of loud protest.

Myself? I have never participated in one and I really don't think I can. Like many others, it's hard for myself to keep quiet. :)

I haven't consciously thought about it as a form of protest or statement making until now, so I've never participated in one. However, I think it's a powerful method that I would utilize (if I had a cause), since I'm almost always silent at school. [I never have much to say to my peers.]

Yes. I have a shirt for everyone I've participated in.
On the front I have a bunch of scribbled slogans about whatever it is, and overtop it says Todays A Day Of Silence
And on the back it just says So Shut Up.
Usually I have a friend whos not doing it around me so they explain what its about, rather than the paper thing. Haven't heard of that part before.

I never participated in those because I thought that there needs to be LESS silence about these things and more action, a silent protest seems kinda anti-productive.

I've never heard of the "Day Of Silence". I'd like to do something like that, but I'm not sure if I'd be able to keep quiet that long. :o

I haven't participated in one myself, but a club in my school has a day of silence. I'm not in the club though.

I have never heard of them. But they seem rather silly, so I probably wouldn't participate. :)
