I can't remember the name of this creature, but it's some sort of fish.

I think that is the strangest creature I have yet seen on this thread...

Agreed. :o

It looks very weird, but it's cute from sort of way.

Its those cute beady eyes.

And the lack of tentacles, teeth, and anything altogether angular except the nose and the tail :P Although I must admit that if I happened to see one of those in the water, I wouldn't be too thrilled to see it (and that's an understatement if I ever uttered one). I think a good question would be how that fish would swim that...protuberance in front of it. Are we really sure that its a fish? If anything, it looks like a fish that lost its way on the evolutionary road to amphibianism.

I'm not sure whether or not any of these were posted in the last thread, but they're still pretty cool, so...

Image

Rare lobster colours. A blue lobster is one in about 3-4 million. Bright red lobsters are one in ten (or nine, I'm not sure) million.

Image

Another blue lobster.

Image

A half albino lobster. A half-white albino lobster- odd, as most albino lobsters are blue. Not just a half-albino lobster. Hermaphrodite half-albino lobster! It's both a boy and a girl. Sooo. A half-white albino hermaphrodite lobster. Cool.

=D

ETA: No, the last crazy lobster isn't photoshopped. Quite real. Here's a less harshly-bright picture:

Do you know what they did with those rare lobsters after they caught them?

I would kinda hope that if it was a 1 in 3 million creature they would give it to an aquarium or something...

Last blue lobster I heard that was caught... was put on display in a restaurant, not to be eaten, but to be kept as the restaurants pet.

Wow i just thought someone was bored and painted them. They look VERY cool. 8)
But i wouldn't mind owning one...hehe

That HALF albino lobster is crazy. And espically since you say albino lobsters are usually blue. Goes to show you that if you think you've seen it all you only see the tip of the iceberg. There's so many wonders in this world we don't usually pay close attention to.
I remmeber my dad mentioning blue lobsters a long time ago. I always thought he was just rambling on with his crazy stories.

I hope lobsters lack the intellegence to realise their comrades are being eaten.

Actually, albino lobsters are still white. It's simply color agenesis that causes a lobster to be blue - that is, two of its three pigment colors don't form (red, blue, and yellow are the natural pigments of lobsters). It's only when all three don't form that you get white lobsters.

This one has a bluish tinge because in the open air, lobster blood is a translucent blue.

EDIT: Lobster blood turns blue in the presence of oxygen because it doesn't carry hemoglobin to transport oxygen, but instead uses hemocyanin, a related protein which is the second-most-common oxygenator in animal bloodstreams.

I knew that from somewhere... I can't recall exactly where, but I do recall that some drug was made from or tested using lobster blood. I wish I could remember because it was something common that is easily recognizable... err...

That blue lobster is so beautiful :) It almost looks like it was sprayed with blue paint or something...

The only real difference in hemocyanin and hemoglobin is one tiny elemental swap. Hemocyanin use copper as the centeral atom as opposed to iron. Copper has a blueish color when oxidized, and iron has a red.
