as my parents would say, it's a job, it gets you money, and most people these days don't enjoy their work ,so get used to it. It isn't very inspiring to hear, i know.

Uh... what?
Most people don't enjoy their work? I don't know what stats you're hearing, but i'm pretty sure most people enjoy their work well enough to keep the job. And I hate to say it, but there's a difference between something like this, taking a job you KNOW you won't keep for the rest of your life, to simply get money (ie, for fun things to do or for school), in comparison to the job you'll have for the rest of your life.

What? You saying there are happy workers all around us? They get up every morning and are glad with how they are spending there time?

Most people i know don't keep their jobs because they like it. they keep it because it's a paycheck, and they are able to bear it. Mayhaps it is different from state to state (country to country). I don't know.

Yep. I'm happy with my job. I love it, and I love the people I work with.

Granted it's only a part time job, but I'm going into the hospitality industry when I finish school. I wouldn't have chosen that path if I didn't like it.

Sure, some people hate their job, but not everybody. I disliked my past job, but that was because I had a new boss and he didn't hire me enough.

Gone, forever.

Maybe you just don't know the same people I do. (which should be rather obvious).

What kinds of jobs do these people actually have?

Congrats on the job :) I just started a new job before Christmas, myself. It's all a bit scary at first, but try not to be too nervous - everyone has to be new at some point! If you're like me and bad with names, try and remember a couple of people's names to begin with, so you can call out to someone if you need help urgently. And as the others are saying, don't feel silly asking questions, it's better that you know what you're doing. Just try and remember what the answer was... they might get annoyed if you ask the same one ten times ;) (I'm sure you won't have to, though!)

A lot of people have been saying slightly negative things about the retail/hospitality industry... but it's not all bad. There tends to be a lot of younger people, which can make very fun. And there'll be some grumpy customers that'll stick out in your memory, but on the whole the majority of people are friendly/normal :)
