I'm sick of white people thinking they should move to Japan because they're obsessed with Anime. Don't kid yourself. Honestly, you will have a very rough time getting used to the culture and lifestyle. Don't even get me started on the many reasons why this is so. And if you're a woman, forget it.

And America does not have an overpopulation problem, especially compared to Japan. Don't even bother trying to argue that it does.

That aside, I'd love to visit Japan one of these days. As far as I know, they don't treat the Chinese like dirt, at least not anymore. (I'm Chinese.) However, they still treat Koreans like dirt. (I know Koreans who live in Japan and face many ethnic prejudices.)

Interest does not equal delusion.

Western pop-culture likes to eroticise and fantasise Asian culture without seeing the entire picture what that other culture is. I'm just expressing how this annoys me and how it annoys me when people talk about moving to a place they've never been to. Now if someone has been to Japan and really enjoyed it, would like to move there and has seriously thought it out, I wouldn't have much to say because it's realistic.

I'm not being racist or sexist, I'm pointing at that Japanese culture is racist and sexist.

Just making sure you're actually being realistic since the premise of your first post wasn't.

People differ. The entire country of Japan isnt racist or sexist.

You don't seem to understand Japanese culture in the slightest. I'm not saying every single person there has the same point of view on these two topics, but Japanese culture is traditionally racist and sexist from the viewpoint of most Western cultures. Large groups of Japanese women are actually refusing to marry because most Japanese men treat women like objects. In fact, you can see the objectification of women very clearly through their media and pop-culture.

Japan seems like it would be fun to visit, but I wouldnt want to live there; I plan on moving to Italy because I love pasta.

Its got better overall standard of life and samurais! Its cultural history is why you'd want to live there! Right? I'm all no i'm going to experience the past and they're like "well that's ridiculous you can't base living in a country on it's history - look at germany" but im all no i'm living in the present.

Some anti-japan people are idiots.

Who needs an even distribution of wealth? :P

And who rides trains anymore either? I haven't ever ridden a train in my life, and I don't plan to. Road trips are so much better.

Oh please. You've not noticed the severe issues going on in Japan relating to women? Don't kid yourself. I'm sure Japan is a wonderful place; that's why I would like to go. However, I'm not deluded. It is not the be all and the end all. You would likely be ostracized there because you're not Japanese, and you wouldn't know all of their customs.

I have to say, from what I've read Dave Barry Does Japan Japanese culture seems pretty ridiculous. Of course, it could just be that all of the Geisha are being played by Chinese women, like in that movie.

Mon Aug 07, 2006 4:08 am

It is a movie, and a movie set in the past so no 'current Japan' points there :P

You mean feudal japan finished? But I want to live in a japanimation farm with doe eyed school-girls wearing suggestively short skirts washing the cows.

Theonleinsaneone clearly lives in the midwest and has never attempted to navigate london or tokyo by car or on foot.
