My school has assoited friendship groups and sometimes cliques. I'm in a couple of friendship groups. The group/clique with the most people and most alies is the most powerful. I'm barely ever involved in these wars, thank god.

We've got a pretty basic one.

|Populars, not too many.| - same level as - |Those who hang around the older year levels|
|Most of the year level|
|The group who sit in the classroom every lunch and don't speak to anyone else|
|The 'loser' guys|

I'm in the 'Most of the year level' group :P

Gone, forever.

Hmm... let's see...

|Popular people|
|Qanda|
|Clever people|
|Quiet average people who keep to themselves|
|People made fun of|

|School janitors|

I'm blessed in a way that my school doesn't have any gangs or bullies, and everyone is basically friendly towards each other. Ostracism and discrimination is still unavoidable, though, but not at a very serious extent.

I've had to think about this for a while but I've come up with my schools social ladder (woohoo...) It was quite difficult because there aren't that many people in my year anymore and there isn't really a social ladder throughout the whole school.
{popular/friends with nearly everyone}
{snobs/have an 'elite' group of friends}
{people who are quite well known/have a fairly big group of friends}
{people who are not that well known/have a few friends}
{people who are just about ignored/have no friends or 1 friend} <- I am here
It's quite hard to put in groups like smart people/athletic people etc as most of the time they fit into more than one group. There are also only about 60 of us so the groups aren't that big

Well, I'm not in the "popular" group, and don't ever want to be. They're usually all pretty stuck up. I guess I'm right in the middle. I have a lot of friends, but you know, I'm not the jock/look good type.

Groups here are interactive to other years.

Anyway.

It's not really a ladder, I wouldn't think so anyway.

Theres Townies/Chavs/Neds/Trendies/whatever you want to call them, they seem to have so many names. Anyway, that's the largest group, dominate the school they do. Quite diverse, no sense of community really. 1400..maybe more.

Grungers/Goths/Bikers, quite small, made up of 50-80 people or so. Extremely close, everyone knows everyone else, hang around in one particular spot. Really friendly, fun & laughter.

"Geeks." is the group that doesn't exist, anyone who is "in it" is in denial of it, doesn't believe so, and has, usually been dubbed a "geek" by the townies, so extremely diverse. Estimate of "geeks" unknown

Other people, hang around in small groups, may talk to various "members" of other groups from time to time, close-knit communities. Friendly sometimes or so and about 500 or so people are like this.

It's really hard for me to figure it out, because I have weaved myself right into the social ladder, on so many different rungs, it's hard to establish myself.

My freshmen friends are either really smart, or band geeks. I have a few that are in the "popular" group, but they are still really smart. This applys to my friends that will be freshmen next year, as there are a few in that grade too.

The friends in my grade are really smart, and pretty quiet...which is the exact opposite of me, and...yeah. They are quiet and nerdy. Most are in band, too.

My junior friends I suppose would be considered "freaks" or "losers", because they really don't do as well in school, and are a bit farther down the social ladder. I love them to pieces anyway, but it's true.

And my seniors friends are either huge band nerds, choir nerds, or really fun. Their group fits in the fun people/bandos/smart people...etc. I spend my time with them most, just because we have a good time together. They are a bit higher on the social chain then the people in my grade, but only like...half a rung. It's hard to judge, because...it's a different grade...and a different ladder.

But our "social ladder" is more like a spider web, because of our small school, everyone knows everyone. The different grade levels get along, because you usually know them through someone, so there isn't the hazing that most people go through.

I love my niche in the "social spider web".

Siggy under construction.

Pretty much 2 ladders, smart people and the people who don't care.

|Smart Popular People|
|Smart People| <-- me pretty much
|Smart People Who Never Ever Talk|

Then there's the "others"

|Preps - Popular Girls and Guys|
|Wanna-be popular people|
|Normal People|
|Smokers/Druggies|
|Goths|
|Scary people who look like they'd bomb the school|

That's pretty much the social ladder at my school.

Ohh, I really don't know. There's like, ~5000 people at my school. And there are way too many groups to list. But most of the people that are at the bottom try to fight (literally!) their way up. Not many succeed. But we all started out there at one point.

It's like the animal kingdom. The stronger hunt the weak. Yet if you are weak, but know or are related to the strong, you are relatively safe.

The girls:

Annoyingly happy-go-lucky girls
Jamie (the group above thinks she's so cute)
Girls like me--people like me, but not many are my close friends
The sort-of cliques
Quiet girls

The boys don't really have levels of popularity. They really only have groups. So I'll just list the groups in no specific order.

Boys who make disgusting sounds with their mouths
Boys who wear black and baggy stuff, capes (yes, some wear capes), and chains
"Normal" boys
Boys who don't do work (similar to above group, except with lower grades)

I'm sure there are other groups, both for girls and for boys, but my brain is too lazy to think of them.

So.. I went to a school of 35 for "gifted" kids... no social ladder at all. XD

But before that, I went to a normal high school, and I didn't really notice any social ladders. Sure, people hung out in cliques, and certain people whose names everybody knew, but it wasn't like the "jocks" and the "cheerleaders" ruled the school. In fact, we didn't even know we had a cheerleading squad until there was a huge sign announcing try outs because they were desparate for people.

I don't think I've ever critically analyzed this before, but why not.

|Athletes| <--My school has a nationally recognized basketball program, thus if you play basketball, you're cool. (I don't.) Even the football players get into this group, for an unknown reason. :P These people are often the only ones who are nominated for Homecoming, Winter Formal, etc. courts, because no one else cares. Many of these people are also affiliated with the same Church.

|"Preps"| <--I absolutely hate using this phrase, but it's the best way of describing it. The people who tend to have a plethora of different dates throughout the year, who are a little more pretentious than most, and those who are used as standards for a specific label (slut, smurf-happy phrases, etc.).

|Punks/Stoners/Skateboarders| <--Everyone who has a leather jacket with studs on it befriends these people. They're often known for going to Portland and getting high. Most of them sit underneath the stairwell. I'm not too knowledged of them.

|Smart People| <--These people aren't always close-knit, but rather, they're friends of many different groups of people. This is often the case, because they're asked for help by people within different groups. Much of the time, they hang out with older students. It's a very broad category. I'd like to think of myself as a person in this group.

|Unclassifiable| <--Included in this group are people who aren't really smart, don't have a definitive stereotype attached to them, and few people actually notice.

|Geeks| <--By no means do I mean Computer Geeks with this. Last year, in fact, the seniors who were computer geeks were some of the most popular people around. This is meant to include those who play video games during lunch, talk about chess club, are loud-mouthed and obnixious, and just generally unlikeable.

|Freshmen| <--With a few exceptions, most people cannot stand them. The main reason for this is because they have chosen to place the freshman hall at the top of the main stairwell, blocking everyone who attempts to get up there. Sometimes, they'll wait for you to hug them before you can pass.

|Loners and Crazies| <--The loners are the ones who sit alone (obviously), never do their homework, are quiet in class, and are yelled at for it. The crazies are people that no one likes for various reasons, but they're a close group, and they're happy.

I need some hobby that keeps me from having the time to do something like this. :P

My school doesnt have that many pupils in it, around 1350 if you want a figure.

The kind of groups in my school are based on your ethnicity. The people in my part of town are not racist, but prefer to stick with their own. You have the Turkish/Kurdish group who sit by the windows. I myself am part of that group, but I dont want to be there. I was put into that group by no choice of my own. I had become friends with a great person, but she was in the group, meaning I had to tag along. The people in the group are fine dont get me wrong, but I often feel that..they just bore me I guess.

Then you have the Jamaican/Afican groups. I was part of this group for quite some time, but an argument lead me else where. This group is spread into many little groups. Sometimes they say horrible things to me because of my ethnicity. Sometimes they are extremely sweet to me. I dont hold that agaisnt them. Turkish girls dont give themselves a very good image, I just have to suffer with it. I have many friends who are in this group, and they all except me for who I am. I have many best friends in this group.

Then you have the Asian. They didnt like me very much because they all fancied my ex-boyfriend, and I personally dont blame them hes quite a good looking guy. But as they got to know me and I got to know them, I found good friendships within the group.

Then you have the mixed group. How I envy this group. Just to have a whole bunch of friends that have different styles to you, that have different traditions to you. That eat different food from you. I mix pretty well with these guys.

That pretty much sums up the groups in my school. And I wouldnt have it any other way.
