lol's kind of lost it's original meaning, I think. It doesn't really signify "laughing out loud", just "that was funny". Any time I want to show that I was really laughing out loud, I type it out.

I don't mind lack of capitals; I myself do it all the time. Missing punctuation at the end of a post or in IM is fine; I also do that sometimes. Missing punctuation between sentences is a pain though. "like how am i going to tell what you're trying to say if you type like this if you don't have any puctuation it makes it all confusing and everything runs together and sounds stupid like really excessive use of like is also really annoying." And no space after periods makes everything look cluttered.

Repeated exclamation marks, in my opinion, should only be used for something really exciting, and then at most three or four. Repeated question marks are just stupid. We knew it was a question after the first one, you didn't need to let us know 5 times.

Ugh. Chatspeak. I hate it. Most of times I get the impression that I'm talking with a 10 years old, or even worse, someone whose mental age is 10. Unless I really want to talk with them, I'll just skip their post or ignore them.
I was shocked when I saw a classmate of mine typing an email just as if it was a text message, WITH ALL CAPS AND LOTSA EXCLAMATION MARKS!11!
I confess that I make some misspellings, some intentional like "teh", some not so intentional (but I learned how to spell suddenly now!), and sometimes I forget capitalization on IM, but people who use forums as chatboards make me wish I could IP-ban them all.
Other random stuff I hate is people who type with a bold/italic/underlined/colored font just because, and people who abuse smilies.

To quote Terry Pratchett... Three question marks, the sure signs of a disturbed mind.

...I type in a color that matches my siggy...that's the only reason. I wouldn't think that would be nearly as annoying as chatspeak. If it is, it shouldn't be an option when typing, eh.

It's a pet peeve of mine. I hate it.

same here, although i hate the gradient fonts more than just one colour.

I agree completely! The they're/their/there, two/to/too, effect/affect and your/you're thing irritates me to no end! They all have different meanings, people!

I think they're/there/their is slightly different to effect/affect - i sometimes forget which way around effect and affect go, the same with stationary/stationery - i find remembering which spelling goes with which word hard sometimes.

One thing i know i do, and i hope doesnt annoy other people, is that while i try and capitalise and punctuate properly, i never remember to capitalise "i", so i dont bother to try - may as well be consistent. i always have to go back and correct emails when i'm writing formal ones.

Hmm, I think double question marks can have their effect as a "Why, why, WHY?" sort of thing.

Did you know that ?!? is apparently standard Italian punctuation for any question asked in a relatively aggressive manner?

The way I've always remembered it is that affect is the action word :)

Yeah, I guess occasionally a really strong question could warrant two or three, but past that is excesive. And the solitary "???" as a kind of "what?" is another exception, but most of the time repeated any punctuation just looks bad.

Alternating exclamation points and question marks are kind of a grey area. Just ?! or !? looks kind of weird, but too many ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! are, well, too many. I usually stick to two of each, in whichever order because I can never remember what I usually do.

Sorry Alex/Xela (for those easily-confused), if there's something more annoying than "ppl dat tlk leik dis" it's "grammar... faeries". ;)

I think... I think we should see other people. (Sorry, couldn't resist *avoids pitchforks and torches*)

It's better for the both of us.

*skips away humming*

OT: I also don't care for the coloured posts. If they're dark coloured, I probably won't read them because it's a strain on the eyes for those of us that use the subBlack layout. I don't mind them if I can read them, but if I can't, I probably won't (likewise with bright colours on subGray).

Sun Dec 24, 2006 3:57 am

If the color is readable, I don't see the issue with posting in color. In fact, someone did tell me before that the color I was using was too dark for the black colored background, so I changed it to a color that is readable in all of them.

Sometimes effect is also a verb. But it usually means "put into effect" as in "effect change" or whatever. Affect always means "have an effect."

My sister's LiveJournal friends briefly went through a phase where they were constantly saying "OMGWTFBBQ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11eleventyone" or something similar.

And I forgot about the gradient fonts. They drive me up the wall. I don't use Yahoo Messenger at all anymore because my friends kept using gradient fonts.
