I don't know what you're implying by this, because I haven't "dissed" your opinion either!

Yeah, you have. You basicsally told me my opinion was wrong, which it isn't. I don't think any opinion is wrong.

That's because opinions are neither right or wrong? Only facts are correct.

This is rediculous, you can't force someone to believe the same things you do and have the same opinion. So you may as well stop.

I do agree with Ginger in that if someone knows they are using bad manners then people have a right to say they are being disgusting. It's perfectly justified and within the relm of freedom of speech.

Also if it is a child they can be told that they are not behaving properly but they should not be called names. "Disgusting" is an adjective and can be aptly applied, it's not a slanderous name call.

"Disgusting pig" is where it changes from discipline and informing to bullying and insults.

no one has a right to call anyone disgusting.

My daugter is overweight like I am she's 6. Another student in her class called her fat, is that ok because she is fat? it's not like they called her a fat pig or anything.

I think not, I took this all the way up with the school, the child has been disciplined by both the school and his parents, he was disiplined even more after he did it again. If he should ever do it again to another child the consequenses will be worse. I will not let someone bully my child and be allowed to do so. Same thing happened last year with another child who did stop bullying her but moved onto other kids.

I was bullied all my life because of my weight because I'm Native in a world that really hates natives, both here and in Edmonton. Yep nothing like being called a dirty fat indian to start your day but I guess that's totally ok because I am... well except the dirty part. Bullying is a zero tollerance policy in schools now. there has been way too many kids that shouldn't even think of taking their own lives but they feel that they need to and some do commit suicide over it I tried at least 3 times before I was the age of 15. Tried another 5 times during high school all before the age of 18 due to the abuse I suffed I tired 8 times.

If anyone feels the need for this post to be deleted and strike me as you may, go right ahead I feel better just getting that off my chest.

I think that was a horrible thing for the teacher to do with the child. The correct thing would have been to talk to the child aside and show what you thought the "proper" way to eat would be or to explain why you thought what they were doing was wrong. Children pay attention to what they're told even if they blow it off and something like that can stick with a child for a long time. It is wrong for anyone in authority to personally put down someone they are watching over especially in front of their peers like that. If that is how a child was taught to eat, someone they are supposed to look up to telling them they are disgusting for it is totally wrong.

The difference with that is that some people can't help it if they're fat. Having bad manner is a choice and it's something that they can change right away.

If someone was purposely burping loudly, using swear words, refusing to bathe or something else along those lines then I would say it was ok to call that person disgusting.

Not a choice if it wasn't properly taught to them.

I see a lot of kids that have bad manners and it's not mostly because they don't choose to use them they weren't either shown or they were shown and they're just not re-enforced daily as they should be. Of course there's those who know them and decide not to use them... in this case we don't know which one it is.

Well that was the whole point. Either way I don't think that using a fork and spoon is disgusting.

The point on that wasn't about using a fork or spoon it was in reference on allowing people to call them disgusting for no manners.

Shouldn't this argument be taken over to the Debate Forum?

So that was my point. I just was adding that I didn't think the teacher even had reason to say that.

and Yeah, this should probably go to the debate forum.

I feel the need to add my point of view as a teacher. Because of incidents such as these, teachers are not all that popular these days. That teacher had absolutely no right to say that to a student, especially one so young. Children learn by example. So really, this child just learned that it is okay for someone to call another person "a disgusting pig", which is not acceptable for a child to learn from a teacher. This teacher should have been disciplined by the school administrators and should have an official letter put in his/her file. Then again, from what I read, the administrators weren't any better about the situation. Things like this just make me upset with my profession.
