No it doesn't. It's meant to shock you. The statement "he sat back down" represents an everyday, ordinary action. It's meant to contrast the fact that he's just killed his mother. Sitting down is no big deal, not wearing a seat belt "is no big deal" but crushing your mother to death, is.
