Whee...Canada picked up its first medal today. Women's synch diving, of all things. O_o

Ah yes, that. I really find it a shame that the government decided to go with all that. We're in debt and we don't have the money for the facilities. -_-

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm totally sports obsessed...remember the usergroup?
Anyway, when I'm not online, I am glued to my television screen watching the all-day coverage of the Olympics.
So far have been impressed with Ian Thorpe and the South African 4x100 relay team were amazing.
The basketball Puerto Rico vs USA was incredible...
Synchronised diving was cool, especially since we actually picked up a (silver) medal!
The 3 day eventing is going well for GB, we're top of the standings with a 2nd place in the individual competition.
Very proud of Ben Ainslie too.

And don't forget the Ode to Peter Kay! But the UK is in joint 20th with Austria, Georgia, Indonesia, Portugal, Serbia&Montenegro, Spain and Zimbabwe. Oh, and while on hjoliday, I caught one of the Soccar prelkiminary matches and it was Portugal, winners of the world cup, against IRAQ! Poor Iraq.

That South African team was on fire! I was so happy for them. 'Quite impressive.

Am I the only one who completely expected the U.S. basketball team to eventually get stomped? They're all great players, but they just don't seem to click well as a team.

And also:
Nooooo! The U.S. men's gymnastics team lost in the all-around. Japan got the gold, U.S. picked up silver. It seemed like the could win for a while, too.

I'm waiting for the mens and ladies gymnastics.

Well, Paula Radcliffe will most definately win Gold in the Marathon as she is the fastest woman alive. Nuff said. And the Athens Website lists her as a star to watch.

Paula Radcliffe should win gold in the marathon, but we can't be certain because anything can happen >_. There's been a rumour that she's injured which is apparently unfounded.

GB's doing alright in the K1 canoeing, our Helen Reeves was in 3rd place going last time I checked.

Thorpe's still storming in the swimming, and you can tell when he wins it actually means something to him, and he's had to work so hard compared to other victories (and the 200m freestyle gold will have meant a hell of a lot after he was touched out by Pieter Van Den Hoogenband in the Sydney Olympics)

GB still seem to be doing OK in the 3 day eventing although their very recent performances have been a tad disappointing, with them slipping from 1st to 3rd.

Japan in the men's gymnastics was a very well deserved medal, they were a class above the others in my opinion. One of their guys got pretty unfairly marked on the vault, I can't remember his name.

Amir Khan...I'm hoping for him to do well in the boxing, he's pretty talented. The cubans are still looking very strong though.

Recently saw a British woman get beaten by Ippon in one of the judo categories...bah.

I felt really bad for Melanie Marshall in the swimming, she had such good prospects and was absolutely distraught with her 5th place in the heat. Sarah Price's injury was horrible too. Our swimming team is definitely not having a great meet. Hopefully Steve Parry can change that, he was looking very strong indeed as the fastest qualifier in the 200m butterfly... I don't think Phelps saw that one coming :P Still, Phelps is pretty good, although will be disappointed at his lack of gold medals so far.

Bad Pyro! Bad, bad Pyro!

Anyway, I'm annoyed that the media hyped up Phelps so much that now that he failed, it's like he did something wrong. He still has a chance to tie the record for the most medals in a single Olympics. It's not like he failed, he's still doing very well.

Oh come on cut me some slack, its the only thing worth watching in the olympics.

Tue Aug 17, 2004 3:21 pm

Atamand, I do believe Phelps can't equal the record anymore.
The record set by Spitz was 7... Phelps was up for 8 potentially, including relays. He got a Bronze medal in one relay, and Bronze in the 200m freestyle, losing out to Ian Thorpe and Pieter Van Den Hoogenband.
Chances= gone.
I think that's right..
