Moths.....ergh. I don't get whats so cool about overally furry bugs that are attracted to bright objects. Why can't all of them just fly to the sun and get burned up.

Do you promise not to hit me if I say, "because the sun is too far away?"

Anyway, I always loved luna moths. Here's one from the top:

When I was a Boy Scout, these guys would flock to our lanterns and cook themselves on the glass. It was that sort of morbid funny that makes Boy Scouting a lot less pure and man-forming than it's supposed to be.

Um... I'm going to guess it's a crab... but that's just a wild guess.

I'm finally back for the summer, although hopefully I'll spend a little more time away from this screen.

I love the luna moth. I've seen a few in real life before.

Yep, it is a "Mantis Shrimp". Can't say anything on the tasty part as I have an aquatic fauna allergy.

Quote:
WHAT IS THIS? It’s a mantis shrimp. Measuring up to a ten inches long, this crustacean lives in a burrow, where it rests in wait for prey. When a fish or other critter happens by, the mantis shrimp darts out and catches the unsuspecting prey with its formidable claws, which are shaped like jackknives.
Stomatopods are predatory crustaceans that live in the shallow waters of tropical and subtropical seas. They are not closely related to shrimps or the other decapod crustaceans, although they are commonly known as "mantis shrimps" due to the raptorial appendages that they use to efficiently capture and subdue prey. These animals range in size from 1-2 cm to more than 30 cm in some Lysiosquillaand are one of the most aggressive and pugnacious of all creatures.

It looks like something a young little kid would make out of junk in an art class.

Oh it's a shrimp? That's kind of scary haha
