... That is the question.

My school is doing a cancer fundraiser, and the students can shave their heads.
I don't know if I should or shouldn't. My hair is fairly long, and I don't know if I should cut it off. I don't know what I would look like bald!
But its just hair, its going to a good cause, and it'll grow back.

So, should I shave it off or not? I need oppinions!

Do you have a job? If so? Is it public?
Why do I ask?
I had a friend, great person, who shaved her head for cancer... and she was a waitress. After she shaved her head, the customers complained about her looks (even after she explained why she'd done it), and they were honestly quite cruel.
If you do it, and you're female, you really do need to be aware of the fact that there will be people who will probably give you dirty looks. I'm totally for it, and I think it's a great thing, but some people... just don't understand.
*shrugs*
If you want to do it, do it. Apparently it feels really weird to be hairless. Good luck.

Is your hair really long?

Get it into a ponytail and chop it off (not all of it :P). Donate it to Locks of Love. Don't shave it all off. O_O

Yeah. I did that once, except it was for kids that have lost their hair (still mainly for cancer). Your hair would need to be pretty long, and you'd have to cut it kinda short, but you'd still have more hair than if you shaved your head.

Which you could style into something cute, anyway.

The hair for Locks of Love goes to making wigs for cancer patients, mainly kids getting chemotherapy. I believe that the ponytail needs to be at least 10" long. There are many hair salons who will cut the hair for free if they know that it is going to this organization. Which means you get your short hair styled and the hair you donate goes to a worthy cause. A win/win situation.

What if you shave it almost all off, then with the remaining heair write something like "4 Cancer" or "I'm Wiggy" or some such fun.

That has made me sick to the stomach. How can people be so cruel? Don't they THINK? For all they knew she could have been a CANCER patient. The last thing a cancer sufferer needs are remarks and looks like that. I'm disgusted.

Are you kidding me? People actually complained about her looks??
God.. how freaking dumb and shallow can people be.
I'd look at it as a positive.. even if I didn't know she had donated it for a cause...
At least you wouldn't have hair in your food when you got it :P heh
*shakes head* I just don't understand people.

But anywho.. if you don't want to shave it all off.. do as others have suggested, just cut your hair short and donate the ponytail if it's long enough.
If you really want to shave your head though.. go for it :) It is just hair and it will grow back!

Find a wig that looks just like your hair. Wear it for a couple of days so people won't notice. Then cut it all off and wear the wig. :P

If I was doing that fundraiser, I would cut it off. But that's just me.

*agrees*

It's your body so you have every right to cut off all of your hair if you want to whether it is for a fundraiser or not.

These dumb and shallow people who complained about ahoteinrun friend need to realize that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and that there are people out there that think bald is beautiful regardless of gender of the person.

What I am saying is if you feel you want to experiment and find out what it feels like to be bald (you might like it or you might not) then chose that option if you don't feel you would want your hair bald then chose this option. Finally remember regardless of the choice you made you did what you felt was the best option for you.

Warning:

If you chose to shave your head bald just remember to keep your head away from sunlight (like wearing a baseball cap) if you are without suncream (The sun's rays can cause cancer to you if leave your bald head unprotected)

If you've got the hair, Locks of Love is a great idea. I have a couple friends who've donated their hair, and truth be told they both look even better with short hair! It's more productive than shaving your head, you won't get weird looks, and it goes to a great cause. :)

Thanks guys..

Still don't know whether or not to do it:P Its all or nothing for me, none of this cutting of hair. Its shave or keep.
And our school is donating the hair to somewhere, don't know where, to be made into wigs and given to cancer patients, we have no say where it goes.

And Ahoteinrun (Hope I spelt that right! Like the horse, right?), thats so sad what happened to your friend.

I have to ask.
Did you read what I said about the horse Ahote Inrun on the site... or did you... know it from something else... because if it wasn't from this site... i'm absolutely floored. Just totally floored.
