I've noticed lately that my dog, Chella, touches noses with me/our other dog a lot. She doesn't do this with anyone else in the family, and I'd really love to know what it means. She's not sniffing (I would be able to hear her if she was), she just... kinda... leans close to me, as if she were going to lick my face, and touches your nose with hers?

Explanation?

It could mean a lot of things... it's most likely means the same thing as when you'd lay your hand on your mom's arm, or if you sit next to a family member you care a lot about, you'd scooch up close so that your arms or legs touch. Just kind of a "hey, I'm here with you".

Rarely upon first meetings will dogs approach each other nose to nose. Only dogs which are very sure of the outcome of a situation will attempt to meet head on. More frequently dogs approach each other in curving lines, walk beyond each other's nose to sniff rear ends while standing side to side.

She knows you're friendly, and it's her way of greeting you. :)

My old cat used to do that, rub its nose and head up against mine. I don't think she did it with any one else. It's just a sign of affection...

It's also to mark you as "theirs". Cats have these scent glands behind their cheeks, so they usually walk around rubbing their heads on random furniture, walls, and humans. It's a territorial thing. But yes, they will usually only to that to people they like.

As for dogs, I haven't got a clue.

Aww, that's so cute! I'd say it's a sign she really likes you. That's sweet :)

Where did that come from? That has to be the eighth most random thing I've heard all day. But that's another story... or seven.

It's not like she said 'PANTS!' or something totally unrelated to the topic.
