I think that's more emo than goth.

Goths are about being dark apathetic and tough, not being depressed and tortured with thier "pain".

Stupid frashin sub-cultures bleeding into eachother.
slap them all silly for stealing the name of a cool Germanic tribe and let them get over it.

For the record I am often labeled as an Emo-goth
(Or Gomo)

Gomo... that's just begging for a horrible typo.

The amount of times of 'and then we sacked Rome/Byzantium' in a Gothic poem would probably irritate after a while.

Using this guide, I'm actually going to take a stab at Gothic poetry (pun DEFINITELY intended).

caligo nox

my black death soul torture
angst raping my ensanguined existence
ephemeral Torment, screaming Tantalus
vorpal Razor, ancient Artist
the blinding darkness of the midnight sun

That's all I've got for now.

If that was made into a haiku it could pass for real poetry.

For those who don't know, "ensanguined" means bloody, "ephemeral" means brief and "vorpal" means deadly (and was made up for the poem 'The Jabberwocky' by Lewis Carol "...his vorpal blade in hand...") Also "the midnight sun" is in Alaska.

So does that make Tao Ren a goth?

"Vorpal Dance Zhong Hua Zhan Wu!"

Hah, of course it does. :P

The non ryhming word formation and stanza lengths reminded me of a haiku.

black death soul torture
angst raping my existence
screaming Tantalus.

ephemeral Pain
vorpal blade, ancient Artist
blinded with darkness

Meh, I dunno.

I don't see the appeal of emo-ness.

I think the point is that there is no appeal. Anyway, Goths and Emos (?) get angry if you confuse them. Even though I see no distinction between them, because there is no clear definition of what it means to be goth or emo.

Emos in a nutshell:

Oh woe is me. I cry all the time because I'm such a tortured soul and people can't understand how miserable my life is.

Usually emos have no reason to think their life sucks other than the things they make up in their heads.

Goths in a nutshell:

People used to pick on me at school but now that I serve the Prince of Darkness, dress in all black, and wear black eyeliner and fingernail polish regardless of my gender, people are afraid of me. Self-mutilation sets me free. If I actually saw Satan standing in my room I'd soil myself because I don't understand what I'm messing with.

Bullying in school basically leads most teens to the goth lifestyle. There are of course some people who think Satan is just the bee's knees, but that mostly has to do with upbringing more than problems at school.

I of course offended any and all Emos and Goths on this site who will deny everything I just said. Just remember, it's not slander if it's an opinion.

I think you got a bull's eye on that one jrtman.

Here are some distinctivities (?) between the 2.

Quote:

Don't do drugs.

Turn your self loathing into hatred of everyone else, but keep it a QUIET hatred, lest ye be merely Punk.

Try using the word "noncomformist" in everyday speech

Suicide is never the best answers. It is not very user-friendly, lacking an "undo" key. Cutting yourself also has numerous drawbacks, but that's another wiki. If you want to show your torment through your appearance, cut off your hair with scissors and leave it all jagged.

Don't go overbored with the entire "Woe is me" attitude, then you end up Emo, and no one likes Emo kids.

This one is emo.

I appearantly fall into the overprotective mother goth category, hah.

Some flagrant generalizations there jrtman. I'm only offended by the self-mutilation comment, and a little peeved at the whole "Satan is cool" thing. I don't know of any goths who worship Satan or pretend he's cool; they just like the goth clothing.
..And boys who wear nail polish are so cute with their "I'm comfortable with my sexuality"-ness.
