Hatemail...I think

I'm a part of an LJ community called NeopianRants, and basically you rant about anything Neopets related on there. I made a rant there about my art never getting into the Art Gallery and one part of my post said this: "Here's my artwork in all its glory. It's not the best but I know it's not that bad either". So...I check my LJ and people very rarely post any replies to it so I was kind of chuffed that someone took the time to read one of my entries and reply to it. Instead of a reply to my latest entry, I saw this:

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA
no. it IS that bad. Your 20? I would've thought you were 10 by your drawrings.
I dont blame neopets for not putting your 'art' in the gallery. allthough it would look right at home surrounded by other pictures by 12-year-olds."

So, that really hurt my feelings. I'm proud of my art and regardless of what other people say about it (other people have said my art is no good, but not in this way) I think it's good and a lot better than what I was drawing a few years back.

Why can't people just say something nice for once? Why is it, that everything I do, someone has to put me down like this? I'm so jealous of the people that get nothing but praise - I want to be like that too. I'm alright with constructive criticism but I always get THIS kind of criticism, the bad sort, and it's not fair. I'm on FictionPress too and someone said that one my stories sucked and that was it.

I was angry when I read the hatemail and um...I replied angrily.

"Who the heck do you think you are? What right do you have to come onto MY journal to post some offensive crap like that? I put a lot of effort into my drawings and it's clear that you don't really know a lot about art; you just wanted to cause offense. I will prove you wrong when Neopets decides to put my 'art' into the gallery. We will see who's laughing then.

Oh, and stop being a coward and post with your real name next time, and not by anonymous. People only do that if they've got something to hide. So show yourself or be a lowly coward. It's your choice."

Meh, at least I wasn't overly offensive. I don't think...

(I've put this here, because it's not entirely Neopets related. It's more about hate-mail in general, so I'd appreciate it if any mod or admin didn't move this, thank you)

Yes, I know. that's not my fault, however. I wasn't the one who started that and I haven't posted in that particular entry. I don't really know why you had to bring that up...

I assume there is a ignore user function there? Just ignore them, It would be easiest.

No offense but what do you want us to do about it? Some people out there are jerks and that particular forum does not have a reputation for niceness, especially as far as PPT is concerned. All I can say is just ignore them and get over it. Sorry.

That type of community you should stay away from. PPT is the place to be.

Well, I like it there. I don't really care if they dislike PPT because that is their choice and they are entitled to like/dislike anything they want. I'm not a part of their PPT bashing and I never will be.

The way I see it, the point of art is not to please others. It's to please yourself. So no matter what you write, and no matter what you draw, the opinions of others mean nothing as long as YOU are pleased with the art that you created. And as far as I can tell, you are.
