Although I did get chuckles out of the absurdity of the whole thing, I feel kinda of bad for the kids. I don't think they are as horribly naive as the people who commented on the article claimed them to be.

The monkey isn't exactly mean and nasty looking. He doesn't scream "Rawr! I'm a dangerous menace that will hurt you if I am not taken down soon". There's no sense of danger from him. He's got those big cartoony eyes like Mickey Mouse. He looks...huggable. Obviously the kids LIKED him to some degree if his "death" was that upsetting. The whole thing probably seemed like an unfair reaction by "adults who don't understand".
