I'm having some really big computer problems that are annoying the heck out of me. All I did was leave the computer on (with AIM, MSN, and YIM running) for about 45 minutes. When I came back, I restarted the computer, and now it won't load Norton Personal Firewall auto-protect, and it loads Norton Antivirus auto-protect only when I manually go to Norton and enable it.

It's also thinking that "C:\Program Files" is now "C:\Program", and wants to rename it to "C:\Program1". Also, I can't go to the internet in Firefox, but I can in IE. I've done every scan imaginable except for the antivirus scan, which I'm about to run. I also can't do System Restore because it's never worked, and I've tried it.

I really need this to work because I know my dad will blame me and I all I did was reboot the computer.

Hmmmm......you have Norton stuff, so by any chance would you have Norton Systemworks? If you do, it should have come with GoBack, which works much better than System Restore.

Yes, I have Systemworks, but we didn't install GoBack because it causes problems <_<

And Systemworks automatically disables the System Restore auto check points, I don't know if there ever was a way to changed it, I never looked into it, or at least it had did to mine, or unless that was from when my hard drive was failing the one time.

How did the virus scan go? If it doesn't look good (like the computer is chock full of viruses) I'm afraid you'll probably have to reformat the harddrive.

If you still have the norton disc around then un-install it and then re-install it, and the firefox thing mite be the firewall not letting you through for whatever reason.

Another thing that just came to mind: How did you reboot the computer? Did you just press the power switch off and then turn it back on, or did you go through the whole Start->Shut Down sequence? If you did the first one, that is probably why. Doing that runs the risk of messing up your computer, usually just the programs currently running at the time. It could explain some, if not all of the problems you're experiencing.

How to fix it? I don't know. Maybe you could try rebooting it properly.

I know what's wrong with my computer now: I have the W.32Netsky@mm virus. I'll either have to download the removal tool on the laptop and transfer it, or reformat the hard drive. (Or do a zerofill)

I'm on my mom's laptop by the way.

EDIT: Bleh, scratch that. Someone (not me and not my dad) altered the Norton Personal Firewall settings, so that we can't change any options, we can't enable anything. My dad's either gonna have to either reinstall NPF, get ezArmor suite (RR customers get it free), or blah.
