I have been getting blatantly fake stories about people finding me trustworthy and wanting me to help me transfer money from place to place. I'll post two examples here:

Quote:
FROM MR HEDI MOYO.
BILL AND COMPUTER MANAGER,
AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT BANK -ADB
OUAGADOUGOU, BURKINA FASO.

Very Confidential
Dear

I am the manager of bill and computer at the foreign remittance
department of African Developent bank(ADB). I am writing following
impressive information about you through one of my friends who runs a
consultancy firm here. He assured me of your capability and reliability
to champion a businees but has no knowledge of this transaction for
security reason.
In my departmentn we discovred an abandoned sum of $ 10.5m US dollars (
Ten million five hundredthousand US dollars) In an account that belongs
to one of our foreign customers who died along with his entire family
three
year ago in a plane crash
Since we got information about his death, we have been expecting his
next of kin to come over and claim his money because we cannot release
it unless somebody applies for it as next of kin or relation to the
deceased person as indicated in our banking guidelines but
unfortunately
we learnt that all his supposed next of kin or relatives died
alongside with him at the plane crash leaving nobody behind for the
claim.
It is therefore upon this discovery that i and two other officials in
my
department now decided to make this business proposal to you and
release the
money into your account as the next of kin or relation to the deceased
customer for safety and subsequent disbursment.
Since nobody is coming for it , the fund will automatically be
transfered
into bank's treasury.
The Banking law and guideline here stipulates that if such money
remained unclamed after four years, it will be transfered into the Bank
treasury as unclaimed fund.
The request of foreigner as next of kin in this business is occasioned
by the fact that the customer was a foreigner and a Burkinabe cannot
stand as next of kin to a foreigner.
We agree that 20 % of this money will be for you as foreign partner, in
respect to the provision of a foreign account, 10 % will be set aside
for any expenses incured during the curse of transfer and 70 % would be
for me and my colleagues. There after I and my colleagues will visit
your country for disbursement according to the percentages indicated.
Therefore to enable the immediate transfer of this fund to you as
arranged, you must apply first to the bank as relations or next of kin
of the deceased person indicating your bank name, account details, your
private telephone and fax numbers for easy and effective communication
and
location where the money will be remitted
Upon receipt of your reply, I shall send to you a text of
the application which you will forward to the paying bank introducing
yourself and at the same time instructing bank to effect the release of
the fund into your account. I must not hesitate to bring to your notice
that this transaction is hitch free on both side as the nature of your
business in not connected to this transfer, so you should not entertain
any atom of fear as all required arrangements have been made for the
transfer.
Contact me immediately on the above email account as soon as you
receive this message to indicate your interest and willingness to co
operate.

Trusting to hear from you immediately.
Yours faithfully,
HEDI MOYO

Quote:
Dear in christ,

Calvary greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus
Christ, I am former Mrs Mary Rasaq obi, now Mrs Mary
Alade, a widow to Late Sheik Mohammed Rasaq Obi, I am
72years old, I am now a new Christian convert,
suffering from long time cancer of the breast.
From all indications, my condition is really
deteriorating and is quite obvious that I may not live
more than six months, because the cancer stage has
gotten to a very severe stage.

My late husband was killed during the Gulf war, and
during the period of our marriage we had a son who was
also killed in a cold blood during the Gulf war. My
late husband was very wealthy and after his death, I
inherited all his business and wealth. My personal
physician told me that I may not live for more than
six months and I am so scared about this. So, I now
decided to divide part of this wealth, by
contributing to the development of evangelism in
Africa, America, Europe and Asian Countries.

This mission which will no doubt be tasking had made
me to
recenlty relocated to Nigeria, Africa where I live
presently. I selected your church after visiting the
website for this purpose and prayed over it, I am
willing to donate the sum of $25.000,000.00 Million US
Dollars to your Church/Ministry for the development of
evangelism and also as aids for the less privileged
around you.

Please note that, this fund is lying in a Security
Company in Europe and the company has branches,
therefore my lawyer will file an immediate application
for the transfer of the money in the name of your
ministry. Please, do not reply me if you have the
intention of using this fund for personal use other
than enhancement of evangelism.

Lastly, I want you/your ministry to be praying for me
as
regards my entire life and my health because I have
come to find out since my spiritual birth lately that
wealth acquisition without Jesus Christ in one's life
is vanity upon vanity. If you have to
die says the keep fit and I will give you the crown of
life.

May the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of
God, and the sweet fellowship of the Holy Spirit be
with you.

If your are interested do reach my Attorney.

His Particulars are:
Name :Barrister Franklin Steven(SAN)
email:frank_babaus@yahoo.com
Phone:234-80-33772344.

Thanks for your assistance

Yours in Christ,
Mrs Mary Alade.
Lagos,
Nigeria.

We covered scams in Law class.
The good thing is that those types of scam emails are relatively easy to pick out. Just check the spelling and such. Also, if you're unsure, try googling the "agencies". Chances are you'll find it listed under scam emails.

I always thought it was kind of funny to start feeding those people lies, just to get them to waste their time. I've replied in the past, it's really funny.

A note, though: Don't EVER try to meet these people in person. You can say you're going to, just to see if they'll go galavanting all around the world for no reason at all, but chances are good they're actually pretty dangerous.

I don't think he needs to take it as far as blocking, "Christ"..I mean,my word, I could e-mail the guy with a nice e-mail, say "Christ" and get blocked! Maybe not block Africa or Nigeria, either..

Anyways, that makes me really, really mad that someone would disquise themselves as Christians and shove that kind of e-mail in your face.

I got an e-mail like that once and it freaked me out so bad. I was like nine or ten and I think I kind of believed it.. :P

I think we'll probably always have to deal with scam emails. We just have to remember to be careful.

I would also dearly like to reply and toy with them, but I've heard that that only proves your email account is active and they will bombard you with even more junk mail.

My, my, my. Some people have too much time on their hands. Though as much as I'd like to reply to those, I wouldn't if I were you. Not worth the trouble, I say.
