3rd Person Adventure Games???

Mon Oct 17, 2005 9:04 am

I'm looking for a really good 3rd person game, or Point and Click as they're also known, for the PC.

I loved the Monkey Island series, and most of the LucasArts games (Sam & Max, Day of the Tentacle, The Dig), and I'm wanting to play a game similar to them.

Has anyone played the CSI games? Are they any good?

Does anyone know a site where I can download the old Monkey Island games for free, legally?

CSI games are good, but immensly hard if you dont pay attention to every detail.
oh, and Baldurs gate 2 is the best RPG ever.
the possibilities are almost endless, march unto the underdark without doing the quests, fine.
kill every dragon in the game(no small feat!) or let them live.
your choice.
a force for good, or evil?
your choice.
a god of order, a god of chaos, or a mortal.
that, is your ultimate choice.

I have Balders Gate, and wasn't too impressed.

I really wanted something similar to the old point and clickies, where you have to find clues to advance the story, not just kill all in sight

Then your not playing the game properly if you think Baldurs gate 2 is point and kill.
i do mean 2, i cant say much for the original having never played it.

Well having not played BG2, I'm still fairly convinced its absolutely nothing like Sam&Max, Day of the Tentacle, Monkey Island etc

Try something like Grim Fandango also by Lucus Arts. I loved that one. I've also heard of Full Throttle I've never played Sam and Max or the Tentacle, but I'm interested in looking into them. I don't know if you consider Myst and Riven to be adventure games, but they could probably be thrown in.

The whole adventure genre kinda died out 5-10 years ago, but I'd love to see a revival of it because I miss that style of game. It took less dexterity and more creativity. It also had a great deal more humor. I would love to see what an adventure game would look like in one of the 3d worlds that the developers have engines for and systems to run them on.

Another curious point, upon doing a google search for "adventure games" I came up with this: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/ It is a website where you can design your own adventure game.

I've got Grim Fandango, and loved it.
I also have all 3 discworld games, again, loved them.

I've been thinking. Wouldn't all the old Lucasarts games be perfect on the Nintendo DS?

I've just bought Sam&Max/Day of the Tentacle and Full Throttle off Ebay for 99p each. Good times ahead :D

I've heard Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney is good. It's all about collecting evidence to solve cases.

The Underdogs

Lots of abandonware games at http://www.the-underdogs.org/

Monkey Island is my favorite game of all time. Luckily, I was young when I first played it -- two of my prize possessions are a long sleeved Monkey Island tee shirt and a Monkey Island poster.

The old Sierra games were really fun -- except for, unlike LucasArts games, you can die.

I'd recommend everything in the Gabriel Knight series. VERY fun, dark, and gothic.
