Guitar Hero: For Those About To Rock...

Sun Nov 06, 2005 2:02 pm

I didn't see a thread about this game, and its the thing I'm most looking forward to this holiday season so...

Guitar Hero is the new music game by Harmonix, the dudes behind Amplitude and Frequency among other things. It comes with a nearly full size guitar controller with 5 fret buttons, a strum button, and a whammy bar. the controller supports hammer-ons and pull-offs, as well as having a sensor to detect the position of the guitar (when you fill up your star meter or whatever you can hold the guitar up next to you and really rock out for a score multiplier).

The game+guitar bundle costs $70. Which isn't that bad.

This game looks awesome. I'm going to definately pick up the multiplayer bundle from Red Ocatane's website.

What are your thoughts on it?

It seems really cool, I've been reading about it lately, ever since they first announced it. I'm a bit disappointed that Konami's not releasing Guitar Freaks over here since that'd be my first guitar game of choice, but this looks pretty decent too. It seems like there's a lot of metal and heavy rock in there though, which isn't exactly my thing...

It's worth considering. But for now my priority's on getting Katamari Damacy (since I have the sequel). :P

I think its a bit OTT for a video game, but its a genre that most games haven't excelled in, and the new one looks quite interesting.

Is that $70 american? what are games normally in american?

That looks like a lot of fun. Unfortunately, while some of the songs on the list are great, like the Ramones, I'm not fond of the majority of them, so I don't think it would be worth my money to buy it. But it's a really cool idea!

Yep, I agree. Poor Konami never got the chance. Seeing as how stupid MTv completely clogged up the "Drum Simulation" genre of music game with their /very/ bad version of Drummania, Drumscape (claiming all rights to the genre with it). And since Guitar Freaks & Drummania always go together in home versions, it'll never happen. But importers (like me) are very happy, Guitar Freaks V & Drummania V CS comes out in spring.

This game looks like it would be just alright, nothing very special. The song list seems okay, though I wonder exactly what they sound like; after all, remakes are never as good as the originals, MP. And the graphics looks like a larger version of Karaoke Revolution's, which makes it seem like it'll just be the same animations over and over rather than have anything to do with how your doing.

It's $70 because it's a pack that comes with the controller.
