City of Heroes

Mon Jul 19, 2004 4:25 am

Im thinking of getting City OF Heroes, but im not really sure what the GAMEPLAY is like, despite all the aricles i've read. Could someone help me out?

Well.. what do you want to know?
The whole game is basically... kill kill kill lvl up.. kill some more.

The only loot in the game are enhancements which you use in your powers to boost them up. So you don't have to worry about people farming mobs or anything.

Uhm.. yeah... if you wanna know something specific then ask away.

no, i mean the general fighting...is it turn based?

turn based? No no... it's real time combat. The game is an MMORPG so turn based just wouldn't work very well with it.

Hey I play CoH it's awsome My chacraters name is Raiu and I am on the Protector Server.

A note though. It really isn't like most mmorpgs out there. There is a lot more to combat than running up to an enemy and swinging a sword until its falls. A lot more interactive. Probably one of my favorite things about the game. There isn't much else to the game besides combat, which is why I think the game's great. If you're into blacksmithing, item creation, etc, then this game might not be for you. I was never interested in those features, thus I think CoH is great. It does do a good job of making you actually feel like a super hero, various travel powers and such. No more long battles with a beetle followed by a large rest period, a necessity after such taxing combat. ^_~

Also, they are planning on adding player vs player. Not sure if that's just the expansion that's coming out next year, or for City of Heroes as well.

Anyhow, I'm currently on the Virtue server. Just thought I would mention that. Also, some1onhere, feel free to ask any further questions.

well there is some blacksmithing by personalizing your powers with enhance ments but I definitly recomend it cuz everytime u play u will get a new experiance cuz there are so many different powers you can choose from and no one looks the same like my guy is natural scrapper who has pointed ears, long white hair, and white midevil armor, and I use a katana for my primary power

OO Hey! you play on Protector too?
So Do I!!! :peace:

Gimme a hollar if you see me on!

I've been playing my character Glamour (fire/fire blaster) recently... she's lvl23 now.
My other char that I'd probably be on if not her is my main SharpShooter (AR/Electric blaster).... she's sorta stuck at lvl 30 (mainly b/c I don't feel like lvling her right now heh)

*Res*
So, most are on Protector? Well, I can never seem to stay on one server. In my opinion, there are -way- to many servers. Lol. The choice would be easy if I knew someone that played on a particular server, but unfortunately... (Excluding one person on Virtue. He seemed to have lost interest though. u,u;; ) Anyhow, thinking of making a character there.

For anyone who hasn’t posted in this topic yet, what server does everyone play on? ;)

Oh I forgot about this thread heh...

I started playing a tank on the Triumph server :) His name is Mega so yep... gimme a hollar!

If you want.. we could make new chars and play it on whichever server together :)
(not pinnacle though since that seems to be the uber busy server, not protector either since all of those spots are filled heh)

Like ya know.. one of us could make a defender while the other makes a scrapper.. or 2 blasters or a controller and whatever else...

Oh, really? Lol. I have an Ice/Ice Blaster on that server. (I'm definitely a blaster at heart. It's kinda funny watching me try to make a build for another class.) Might change around my build if I'm going to continue with him. He shares the name I gave one of my characters on the role-play board. :P Kenji Touketsu. Then again, might just create a new character all together.

Might see you around then.

I was gonna get this game itill I found out its only for online and you had to pay for that too. So spending over 40 bucks for a game and then paying alot to play it wasnt for me.

That is what put me off with CoH's creators other game Lineage II. I loved the game and was able to beta test both of them, but I couldn't afford the public release.

CoH is another endless and pointless mmorpg, so if that's your thing, go for it! i know a kid who constantly plays it, so apparently it has some addiction value. The combat is fairly unique though and it has a cool reward system for leveling (like gaining the ability to fly). there are also plenty of players, so you should always find a mass of people to talk to; even so, there are plenty of baddies to fight and level up on. also, im pretty sure you lose no exp. when you die, so its not so annoying as some other mmorpg's, or just other rpgs for that matter. I just found it fun creating a hero :)

On another note, i hear they're coming out with a spin-off called "City of Villians"...same principal, but evil
