David Jaffe and the folks over at Eat Sleep Play have officially announced Twisted Metal: Head-On: Extra Twisted Edition for the Playstation 2.

Jaffe first mentioned the game a few months ago when news of his studio (which is also comprised of Scott Campbell and other SingleTrac/Incog alumni) broke. However, Jaffe just recently made it official with a posting on Sony's Official Playstation Blog. Included in the blog was the first batch of media from the game, including a teaser trailer and four images.

More than just a port of the Playstation Portable Hit, TM:HO:ETE offers much more for fans of the series. The graphics to the game have been revamped and an extra level was added to TMHO. Also included in the game is a portion being dubbed "Twisted Metal: Lost", comprising of 4 never before seen levels from the unreleased Twisted Metal Black 2. Twisted Metal: Lost includes all vehicles from the original TMB, with the addition of two new characters, "Gold Tooth" and "12-Pak".

If that is not enough for you, the game will also come with a documentary that takes a look back at the entire Twisted Metal franchise. IGN also reports that the game will come with a booklet of previously unreleased Twisted Metal concept art.

Originally scheduled for release late this year, the game is now penciled in for a Spring 2008 release, with Jaffe mentioning on his blog that February may be a possibility.

Since the official announcement of the game was made, additional screen shots have been made available. A link to these new images can be located at the top of this new post.

Stay tuned for additional information and/or additional media is released.
