You really don't need an animation program just to make an avatar. But anyway, the GIMP is good, I hear.

To make animated Avatars

The GIMP can animate. Look through the page I linked. ;P

GAP (the GIMP Animation Package) for 2.0 is available at ftp://ftp.gimp.org/pub/gimp/plug-ins/v2.0/gap.

I use something called HVS animator...

You can find more on http://www.download.com and search Gif Animator...

You could download a trial version of Animation Shop.

PS You have Zero in your avatar. That makes me happy. :D

Or you could always use unFREEZ.....

Files animated with UnFreez have HUGE filesizes though.

Graphics don't have to be animated to be great. I rarely animate anything anymore, because I can't stand the tedium of it. Though animating does add a certain amount of pizazz to things.

Hmm I agree. I don't really like animating stuff. Sometimes things are better without animation. ^^

Yup, I once had a 110 kb av (and I seemed to have gotten away with it for four months or so, until I switched it myself) made fro UnFREEz. What it basically does is pile up all the images you select. Even if there's just a letter's difference in each "frame", it piles on the filesize of each image you select. So if you're animating something, say, with 20 different flashing letters and your image is 6 kb, that's pretty much 120 kb right there. Way over the PPT limit too.

fancy

Listen you don't need anything fancy. I make all my images with ms paint and a program called coffeecup gif animator. just go to coffeecup.com and you can download a free trial. Or if you look around you can find versoin 3.0 for free and it won't dissapear.
