This is something I found interesting off of the neoboards
Board (prob wont last long) - http://www.neopets.com/neoboards/topic.phtml?topic=94905861 posted by user - gweniiee

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/4e/Picture2pp.gif

Its part of a letter/agreement signed by Mitchell Kamarck.

It all seems legit, doesn't look to be a fake letter or anything.

Proof that you can be hacked.. not cracked or just plain stupid. Would love to know who it was though hehe

edit - well actually it states he hacked other sites.. doesnt specifically state he hacked neopets.. more defaced :roflol: (why do i find that funny? o_O)

edit - that account got disabled pretty fast and board deleted.. it seems some people think its a fake because of too many grammatical errors.. meh.. im gunna search it up on wiki

It says disgorge all of 'her' profits, should'nt it be 'his'.

Point number 4 is wrong . . (what i can make of it):

4. Disgorge all of her profits derived from the sale of Neopets over the years;

The rest of the letter stats that the person is a guy, not a girl. Typing error?!

I cant believe that Neo would allow that behaviour you go on for years as stated in the letter!

Edit: o.0 you beat me to it!

I don't think it's real. Such a letter can be easily forged. Heck, I could make one just like it with winWord. Other than the gender identity issue pointed out by the previous two posts, it is full of grammatical mistakes and simple errors which would not be present in a real legal letter. Another example would be in the first full paragraph: Neopets is written as 'NeoPets' and then as 'Neopets'. The second and third sentence of that paragraph should also be joined together, among other errors (sorry, English major here). Also, how do we know that is Kamarck's real signature? Or that a Mitchell Kamarck really exists? Perhaps someone with more knowledge of the TNT staff could confirm this. However, it looks suspicously like a forgery to me, and not even a good one.

I can see this is a poorly written letter. If this IS legitimate then I have to say the Neopets legal staff really slacked off on their writing skills. It wouldn't take me long to forge a letter better than this.

Oh! I remember a couple of months back... I had some programmers who contacted me about that problem because they wanted it brought direct to Adam Powell's attention - I forwarded all their emails with the vulnerability details... how people can hack into other accounts using javascript etc. etc. etc. (never released the information public for obvious reasons)...

That person complained to me a couple of times that Adam never emailed him back - could it be the same? He was 13... a complete programming whiz.

Hold onto your seats people... the SL is back.

Mitchell Kamarck is a real lawyer in the Los Angeles area, although I don't know whether or not he's ever been related to Neopets. However, he does practice in the fields of both litigation and intellectual property.

I am actually somewhat convinced that this is a legitimate letter written by someone who is simply not a good writer.

No attorney would ever allow a letter with such poor grammar and so many typographical errors to go out with his or her signature. It isn't professional and it could lead to questions regarding the enforceability of the demands if the grammatical errors create any confusion. At the very least, there would be consistency in the capitalization of the name of the client on whose behalf the letter was being written.

What bugs me is the texture of the paper, the poor quality of the ink and how the one email address is highlighted like a hyperlink. O.o

Yeah, seems a little fake looking to me...

or really poorly written.

I am pretty sure this event really happened. But that does not look like the original letter I saw on Wiki a while back when I was reading about this person. The rest of the pages of the letter are missing, too. And explains more about why the letter seems so weird. I will see if I can find the rest of the pages and post back if I can find them. That image looks scanned-in, crooked, and possibly modified for reasons unknown to me.

Oh I see they are all at that same Wiki page (just search neopets on Wiki and scroll down to the links at the end, numbers 29 and 30, but I seem to remember one more part somewhere).

And I can easily see any lawyer making a mistake like that. I have dealt with several lawyers that correspond with me quite frequenly and some letters still do have things like Mr. and such on them addressed to me.

Here is the apology letter.

After that number 31 is listed as: Sound clip of conversation between "InfamousX241" and the angry father of a 15-year-old girl.

I think the missing pages of the Neopets letter explain why the "her" is mentioned at the end, as I recall it was about someone that conspired with him and/or benefitted somehow from his hacking.

This looks like a joke letter (that I've seen around somewhere before) misappropriated for mischief.

It all looks pretty fishy... Really, anyone could have made those documents. And since wikipedia can be edited by anyone, that anyone who made the documents probably put them in there. Wikipedia is good for some things, but at times like this, its legitability should be questioned.

The "secretary" who typed this should be fired. If he/she hasn't been already. It's like, if you're going to be typing something PROFESSIONALLY, please learn your proper grammar.

Not to mention the whole thing looks like it was typed into Microsoft Word and then printed out. o_o

The funny thing is, how would Neopets know he hacked and defaced other websites when they are only aware of what he does on THEIR site? The other thing that is funny, is that not only did he not deface Neopets website, he also DID NOT HACK anything. Password stealing and cracking is one thing, but alot of people improperly use the word "hack' for any illegal comprimising of passwords.

But nobody disputes that someone can't hack into your computer either.
