Training Advice?

Wed Jun 29, 2005 11:07 pm

Not weapons advice, hehe. I have a battle pet who was getting labbed for a fair amount of time. When the war came around I was in rank 1 and had a lot of fun, however because of his labbed stats I was more limited than I should have been - his HP and strength were much higher than his sickly defense which led to me being wasted

Agility : 30 (GREAT (30))
Attack Strength : 55 (EXCELLENT (55))
Defence Strength : 14 (very heavy)
Current hp: 103 / 103
Level : 54

I trained his level so I could start on balancing his stats and I'm currently working on his defence now that his strength is up to that boost (it was previously at 30). Thing is I have a species and paint job planned, I only plan on doing 1 player battles and wars and I'm not aiming for sky high stats (or weapons - I'm playing nqII for those!). I'm going for the 85 boosts at the moment and then maybe to the next one up. The BD is just a side venture for me, it's not my main purpose for playing neo x)

Once his stats are levelled out a little would you recommend codestone training alone or codestone training plus labbing? My lab is nice to my HP but only makes my defense and level go down - also it keeps my strength quite static overall so I'm wondering whether I'll lose more money by occasionally labbing and having to regain stats than if I just bite the bullet and morph/paint him and codestone train from now on.

So yeah, what would you do o_O And also is it better/cheaper weapons wise to have balanced stats? I'm guessing so but thought I should just check, heh. Thanks very much for any advice you can give :)

Oh yes, do lab and train at the same time. Training should be used to fix up the stats the lab ray damages or doesn't touch.. that is, level and defence and strength, I suppose. You could also look into TT's for training your level. Also, you could try Kitchen Quests as they raise stats quite evenly.

As for weapons... Not really. If you don't train defence a lot of weapons become useless. And generally, when battling against someone with basically the same stats as you, but higher defence, you'll most likely lose. Balanced stats are good though *nods*

Thanks for the input :) I'm just not sure whether I'd end up spending more on codestones if I lab as well (to make up for lost stats) or if I'd pay more doing only codestones. If it was either of my other two labs I'd be fine, they're used for colour changes so of course give great stats. My main lab though was used for stats and so concentrated on colour changes and rubbish stats *head desk*

I would go with TTs and Kitchen Quests (I do the quests anyway) but I have four pets on the account and nowhere for them to go so I can't really do that. I've got a long time ahead of me getting my stats up to my level anyway before I could think of labbing again, I just choose to worry about it now, hehe

I would not lab while training.
It's going to keep setting you back in terms of defense and level.
Just train with codestones and KQs.

Dunno. When I used the lab for training, I just labbed until my pet's HP were almost but not quite ready to push her into the next price bracket. Then I just stopped labbing altogether to train.

Slower than labbing while training, but meant I didn't have to worry about keeping my levels up.

On the other hand, now that your levels are already up maybe it makes more sense to train?)

Yeah I was thinking that seeing as I've trained level and I'll be balancing them all up to the 85 boosts anyway that labbing may be more trouble than it's worth. I'll ponder it a while I guess, I'm trying to make sure I come to a logical decision rather than just wanting to be able to stop labbing so I can morph and paint him hehe

Thanks very much for all the input =)

Well, I may still go back to labbing my main pet at a later date, once she has been trained back to the edge of another price increase.

In fact, given that I'm not a serious battler (nor particularly rich), I've been thinking that once I pass a particular price point (I think 4 codestones a pop is my absolute limit) I may simply sit back and lab my pet for, say, a year with no more training and let her stats do what they will. Unbalanced stats are better than no stats, if I wouldn't be doing any more training anyway. It'll be a long time before I reach that point, though.

Luckily I've not found an Eyrie color that I like better than blue for her... Eyries aren't an especially cheap morph, but at least when I morphed her back and painted her, it wasn't so expensive that I can't lab her again if I want (and was considerably cheaper than training by codestone would have been).

I'll probably be going up to the 4 codestone limit too I think though I've kinda run out of other stuff to spend my nps on heh, so I'll see when I get to that stage. Unfortunately my pet is destined to be a darigan scorchio which is a little expensive to redo and as his name is quite reptillian it doesn't really go with him being a pteri at the moment xD

I guess I'm just shallow and prefer my pet to look nice first and train after than have him keep getting labbed :D If he was on my second lab it wouldn't be a problem, it loves being nice to stats when I really want it to give colours. Labs always seem to give the opposite of what you want, heh.

I think I'll probably give up on the lab to be honest and go with codestone training and kitchen quests, I like having the extra control over his stats and it's nice to see his defense going steadily up for once! And eventually I might get enough conviction in my decision to paint him =)

Thanks very much everyone :)
