There seems to be more report-happy people these days. o.o

Wed Jul 27, 2005 6:16 am

At the Avatar chat there seems to be someone reporting (or threating to report) someone else for no apearant reason in practically each topic. It's so annyoing.

Is anyone else noticing this?

Michelle, I've long been of the opinion that the "report this message" should be taken away from the boards. There are "report-happy" people. I don't know why, I have reported things, but it's rare and it's got to be something big for me to even consider it.

Right now, what might be contributing to an excess of reporting is the whole duping thing. People are on edge, they're nervous and ready to jump at anything without thinking first.

The only advice I can give you is if you want to go to the boards, be a lurker, not a poster. I've become a world-class lurker. Occasionally yes, I post. But I do alot more just reading then moving on.

yes, I believe more people seem to "enjoy" this power these days... I guess it's just a few young kids with a desire to click on that report button... That's why PPT says no back-seat modding :D

I post regularly on the boards ( would, every hour on Neo be regular? :P) but I usually don't get any wierd reports or anything. the last warning i got was for having trades up that I didn't want to sell... it's all a matter of knowing your limits and staying away from trouble...

Unless of course, trouble comes looking for you :x

I don't know about the AC, but I know that on the HC, there's been an increase of spammers, scammers and beggars. So naturally there's been more reporting going on on that board. Then again, the mentioned above "rule breakers" tend to report all the people on their board who tell them what they are doing is wrong. And someone actually got frozen for it, but thankfully is now back.

That's what I'm most afraid of.
False reporting.

Well, you have to watch out for the stupid trolling ****s who think they're hilarious with their "reported" sigs. They do their html such that their message is always "REPORTED!" and their actual message is where their sig would normally be. I honestly think anyone doing that should receive a major warning for being a massive troll. Better yet, just IP ban them from the site.

The sad thing about the HC though. Is that the very people who claim to want to stop beggars, spammers and generally offensive people, have the tendancy to be rude themselves.

I don't see how posting something sarcastic like

"Yeah, SURE you can have my pet I worked hard for. Have it!!"

Is helping. Why not just report and move on? The board will dissapear soon enough.

Plus. Some of the people they complain to aren't even begging. They just want a limited pet they missed. I don't see enquiring as begging.

Though asking for donations gets on my wick.

Oh, the BD chat yesterday was full of report-happy people. Idiots going around just looking for people to report. There were a couple of them who would find someone with a big expensive shop and then make a post saying that person obviously was a duper and wanted help reporting them. Another evil little smurf insisted that she was going to report every person who had a trade up with "Please delete this" on it. According to her, it was obvious that these people had duped the items and wanted to keep them. Oh, too bad I couldn't reach my hands into my monitor and choke some sense into a few of them.

Just don't post on the boards. That's my solution.

The report option for messages is helpful and IMO a good idea, but unfortunately, the staff simply can't get to the threads fast enough to determine if they're actually report-worthy.

False reporting is a freezable offense, though, and I'm sure that those who do it are likely to get frozen.

I am a official lurker too. I post at times but very rarely.

A Viable solution is just not to post anything that will anger anyone at all.

Just keep to yourself everything and you'll be okay. The report msg button is indeed good way to catch more trouble makers with lesser time since there are more "eyes" around there. However, every freebies out dere will surely be taken advantage of. This is an example. Some people will just into any board and if they see something they hate, they press the report button. It is absurb at times to be frozen for saying a few undesired words but it is the truth. Be wise and don't post.

i never report anything i see that is bad. cause i think that when u report, even though u reported for someone scamming and u did nothing wrong, u will get frozen,

e.g. in the merridel, maraqua wars it was pre setup and in the merridel war, the 2nd highest person of the good side i think got frozen for no apparent reason because they wanted the bad side to win

2 e.g.

go to

http://neopets.com/games/neoquest.phtml?section=leaders

then u click on all the names, most got frozen... i think if u are like the first to win something, neopets will just freeze u for no apparent reason

but the good thing is that they cannot keep track of what everyone on neopets is doing each day is because the vast amount of people playing neopets each day stops them from doing that

Actually, they can and do on a daily basis.

I do go on the boards, but I tend to ignore rather than report unless someone is blatantly advertising a scam website.

I do think that "asking" for items and/or pets is akin to begging. Especially pets! It's one thing to ask for an item, it's a completely worse thing to "ask" for someones pet that they put a lot of hard work into.

What bugs me is those who report for spamming on the HC and then make a restock "help" chat and talk bout anything but restocking. It drives me insane.

Wed Jul 27, 2005 4:49 pm

I never post there and I rarely visit (maybe once a month) because of the report-happy people and the general lack of intelligence that is shown there. I don't want to get reported for nothing and then frozen. I think some of the report-happies like the report those with accounts older than theirs, with better pets, a bigger shop, etc because they're jealous and they'd like to see you lose that.

There are some nice people there, of course, but in general I'll stick with this site. I can find out information here from intelligent people who don't say "00mGGGGG im going 2 rePROT u 4 dat!!!!!!!!!!!111111"

Wed Jul 27, 2005 4:53 pm

It's best never to get into an argument or say anything that might provoke someone on the boards. If I'm offended or annoyed by something someone posts, I just leave. Debating stuff is better done through neomail with people you know, or on guild message boards, than with unpredictable strangers on the neoboards.

Fair point; but these were won during 2001. 4 years ago. Alot could have happened during those 4 years - they could have quit and self froze or got frozen mistakenly/purposely.

And your last point - that's no excuse to do wrong and make their job harder.
