An annoying circuit city advertisement

Mon Aug 21, 2006 11:34 am

Is anyone getting the annoying circuit city advertisement a lot. Here lately it seems like I get it a lot, especially when I try to restock. There seems to be no way of closing the ad, even though there is an "x" and the word close. I've never gotten that to actually work. Clicking on the x just opens another window with the circuit city website. I mean, that is basically forcing someone to click the ad, because it covers nearly the entire screen. I guess a lot of people don't click on banner ads, which forces companies to do stuff like this, sort of forcing people to click them. It still stinks though. When are people at neopets going to realize that an ad is an ad, and it doesn't matter if it is at the top, side, or middle. It doesn't matter if it is huge or tiny or even if it covers the entire screen and screams and flashes and begs you to click it it. Or plays music...or buzzes like a mosquito or promises you money... I am not going to click an ad. I hate them! Don't you?!

Yeah, I hate those too. Someone wrote in to the Neopian Times asking about ads that opened up popups, and TNT said popups were not authorized and should be reported...but I don't know if that counts as a popup or not. *shrugs*

I hate that buzzing mosquito with a passion. I always either leave or refresh the page to make it go away. *kicks it* :x

But Neopets gets money from advertisers to merely have the ad on the site, it doesn't matter if anyone clicks them or not. As is my understanding, anyway. *shrugs again*

I wish they made a "neopetslite" with text ads.

that'd be so awsome it's not funny anymore.

I really hate the ads because they're random, they're stupid, and are a pain to load [I'm using an old win98se]

OH I HATE THAT ONE!! I've been playing neoquest lately, and that one pops up all the time. Those kind of ads just drive me crazy. Grr.
I wonder if that does qualify as a pop-up ad?
Thanks!

But if too many ads are blocked, it takes forever to load a single page. That's why I got rid of it. It worked fine, but then I had to block so many stupid ads, that it took me 2 minutes to load the game page, when usually it's up in less than a minute.

I believe the CC ad would be a pop-up. Oh i hate it!

The mosquito one too...UUGh i get tht one most often!

And how about that rapid flashing YOU WON! It actually hurts my eyes to look at it!

We all should ban together and contact TNT about this. It is just uncalled for!

I may quite possibly have Petit Mal Epilepsy (Absence Sezuires, nothing deadly), so this does not refer to myself, but it could be fatal to anyone with epilepsy.

Actually, and there's an interesting trick to it, it IS close-able. When you click the X, it'll open up another window with more ads, but that's because the things are all screwy so that the X is part of the ad. To close it, you need to move your mouse a little left of the words "Close" (or the X, I guess) until the word is highlighted. You might not be clicking "Close" directly, but if it's highlighted, then you're choosing to close the ad rather than clicking on it. I don't know if that made sense or not.

Wow, I feel sorry for you guys. :/ I have Firefox with Adblock, and I've never seen a single ad or popup on Neopets. I can't imagine how annoying that is, I mean that's just insane.
I thought I read somewhere on neopets that they never have popups, just ads on the page. In fact I'm sure I read that. Wow they were lying though their teeth. My opinion of TNT is dropping more and more every day. >.>

...I do use Firefox. o_O It blocks popups fine on other sites, but I always figured that it didn't block ads like the Circuit City one because it was embedded into the page...

I can't say it will work for sure, as the Neopets servers can be smart enough to notice the new info is not for real, but...

Have you folks tried to change countries on your profile?

I am from Brazil and such info is on my account. I never saw the Circuit City ad. I got lots of "work on USofA", "green card for free", "improve your online security" and, oddly enough, "visit such-such-site and win a free handbag". o_O But no popup at all.

The downside is, some sponsor games are not so easily reach-able, as they don't appear in the games list. You got to search the news untill you find'em. And no theatre, too.
