Toolbar, Tarla and Chat

Sun Dec 24, 2006 5:01 am

i got into an arguement with a few people in the neopets chatroom. they said something and i want to know if its really true ? Are poeple with the toolbar allowed to give the links to Tarla's giveaway on the chats ? they said that TNT did not disallow it. it its true then i'm really not pleased. in fact i will remove my toolbar because i believed that it was the only way to get the prizes from Tarla, so if others are getting them from the links that others post in the chats, i might as well do the same.

As far as I know, I don't even know if TNT have a way to see if there's a toolbar installed or not.

I've never had the toolbar, but I've been given links from people, and I haven't had any problems. The toolbar doesn't even work correctly with FF 2.0, unless you do a very long complicated workaround. In fact, I'm at a disadvantage without the toolbar, as I have to wait for someone to give me a link if there's a prize.

Eventually, after about two days, I gave up clicking the alert. Too much trouble, and 99% of the time I click it the prizes are gone. I've only received prizes twice, I think.

And I was given the link to the second one, so I suppose it is okay.

Well, see, not everyone can download and install the toolbar. My primary computer runs on MacOS, and there's no toolbar option for that. Probably won't be one until there's enough demand for it, and since Mac users make up such a relatively small portion of Neopets players, that probably won't happen for a long while. So I'm stuck with using links until that happens. I'm not trying to cheat, it's just the only choice I have aside from being shut out of the giveaways altogether.

And until TNT says that using those links is flat-out against their rules, then I'm going to keep doing it, because I'll be damned if I miss out on free stuff just because I don't use Windows. (Now if there WAS a Mac option for the toolbar, and I still couldn't use it for some reason, or didn't like it and voluntarily decided not to use it, that'd be a totally different story.)

Since not all people can get the toolbar, it seems fair to let them get in on the action because they can't help that TNT hasn't gotten it for Mac. If they say it's not allowed, then I won't do it, but now I'll start posting links to people.

I don't see how they could catch you anyway. :P

Well I guess they could, if the can tell whether you have the toolbar installed when you visit the page. But that seems silly, because you could just click on Tarla's shop randomly at any time and get lucky.

I don't see anything wrong with people giving out the link, unless I hear it direct from TNT otherwise.

I wish I knew someone who could give me the link, cuz there's no way I'm installing the toolbar, even if they do make it work for FF. But I guess it's my own fault for being so introverted.

Uhhh - it's one a day anyway, so you were hitting the maximum. It's worth it to click the bulb if it's flashing, but darned Firefox 2 doesn't seem to support the toolbar without a little bit of hacking...

I know that in the NeoLodge shoutbox, even staff members will give the link to the toolbar. I guess it's fine.
As far as I know, you don't even need the toolbar to receive the items from Tarla.

I just bookmark and refresh this link. It will take you to the Alert in a browser page, and when Tarla is giving away it will say so. Click and get the direct link to whatever prize she is giving out. No buddy needed. Heh. :P

I'd say it's probably frowned upon, not a freezable offense, though. The alert is meant to be used with the toolbar, and I'm sure there will eventually be a way for them to limit Tarla to those who have the toolbar specifically.

Someone posted a link a while ago, to "force" FF2 to be compatible with the tool bar. Thats how I got the tool bar, when my mate downloaded FF2. and it works fine for me.

I use a browser that doesn't support toolbars at all. I feel I browse safer because of it. I personally don't like toolbars. I don't think that should be frowned upon and I am 99% sure it is nothing remotely freezeable over.

And as others have mentioned, the toolbar works best only on IE. Mac users, Firefox users, and users of other browsers are somewhat 'left out.'

I think Tarla's Giveaway may be an incentive to install the toolbar, but I do not think it is a requirement to claim Tarla's freebies. Besides, I am pretty sure TNT is not making any extra money off toolbar installations. :P

Yep - the nightly tester tools will "hack" a bit to make it look compatible to Firefox (and apparently it indeed is, it's just not marked as such yet).

ROFL they can frown at me all they want! I don't care, as long as they don't freeze me. :P
If they eventually make it completely impossible to get the prize without the toolbar, oh well, I'll live without it, I hate toolbars. But so far they haven't, so for now I'll try to catch it every now and then. (Thanks for that link anjuna! ^_^ )
