Password Pop-Up

Ok, here is my board about this.... I am posting this because I am SCARED. Has anyone else had this happen to them when changing something about their user profile? I was NOT changing my password when this occurred, I was adding a link to my profile. I did not click on ok, i clicked cancel, and the change still occurred, as if that pop-up did not affect the outcome of my change at ALL. Please let me know if I am over reacting.

Chill ya beans, haha. We're a forum, we move much slower than the Neoboards but if you're patient, you'll get amazing advice off people who are probably a lot more knowledgable than I am. :P

As for your predicament, I really have no idea what's going on there. Scan your computer maybe? Sorry for being so useless!

I've gotten something similiar to that a few times before only the options are both <> and <>. I simply ignored it and nothing bad happened. I'm not really sure what it is or why that happens sometimes, but like I said, I have gotten that before.

To see if it was a neo problem (which we know there are many) I went and added a link to my user lookup, and nothing popped up.

If I were you, I'd scan my computer for adware & spyware, and also see if it happens when you try again, and change your password for good measure.

Sorry I'm not more help, random popups like that are quite scary. :(

i scanned my computer last night right before going to bed, and this happened right as i turned my computer on, so....

I suggest that you report it to TNT, if you haven't already. And change your password to both your neopets account and your email account.

And if you get that popup again, the best thing to do is not hit cancel, but instead try to get rid of the popup altogether. My work computer got infected a few years ago and this is the advice the company's IT manager gave me. He said never touch a popup window, even by hitting cancel, because it could have adware/spyware attached to it. You can get rid of the popup by doing the following: press ctrl alt delete, a windows task manager box will pop up. Then go to applications and see what is running on your computer. The popup should be listed somewhere under Task (look for anything suspicious). You can then get rid of the popup by clicking on its name under Task and then hitting the End Task button.

Oh, and since you clicked the popup, you might want to run scans again--just to see if it added any spyware/adware to your computer.

Have you upgraded/switched/changed your browser or its settings? It could be something as simple as your browser trying to fill in the password for you.

I have one browser set to do that so I can easily work on lookups, and I get a popup box from my browser that asks which username I want to be entered and it then supplies my password to the form.

That box you screenied looks like an IE box and I don't use IE so I can't tell you where the settings would be, but likely under Tools and look for a password manager. If you find a setting like that with a list of usernames its stored passwords for, that's probably your answer and you're safe.

Anyhow, it's a quick easy check. GL
