Funny "Outside" References

Thu Jan 25, 2007 1:39 pm

I came across with the petpet Flightning Bug and he had this great description. Can you guess what reference is this one:

This round, brown bug can generate static in its wings to give a Neopet a nasty bbbbzzzap!

Soon after, i came across this fun item, the Black Eyed Peas!

i just had to buy it. so now i am trying to make a gallery of great off-site references like those ones, either in the name, or in the description.
If someone can help me out, i would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: another cool description is the one from Half Coconut Shell:

When you bang two of these together they make a nice clip clopping sound.

the funny thing was that i had seen the movie on that same day XD

I think there's a list on wikipedia of neo references.

Thu Jan 25, 2007 2:00 pm

yeah i saw it too, but it only covers 404's and things like that, not items

Thu Jan 25, 2007 4:10 pm

no, there's plenty of items on there. I added a couple myself :D

edit: the whole article is gone now! it was deleted for being too trivial.

No, there's not plenty of items or anything else on it, the article was deleted yesterday. You can still see it cashed on Google, though.

In addition to the Amulet of Inevitable Betrayal (mentioned in the article) any Hoban articles might be considered a Firefly reference, since Hoban was named after Serenity's navigator, Hoban Washbourne.

It's been well documented, but the entire "how windmills work" mess is my favorite reference of all time.

EDIT: Sorry, I missed the part where you said you were making a gallery. The only relevant object I can think of is the Altador Prize "The Way Windmills Work."

Humm, yeah i like the amulet of inevitable betrayal, but it's kinda... unbuyable LOL i was thinkin something more along the 5-10k MAX just to get the gallery off the ground.

if someone can remember some of the items on the page, i would be grateful!

said about google still having it cached? that means you can still look at it lol.
go here

but be quick about it, and maybe COPY that information. I don't know how much longer that's going to be there.
happy hunting!

Rauven, I'm already working on a similar gallery. Fun seeing all those things, isn't it? :)

This isn't an outside reference to anything media related, really... but it makes me laugh nonetheless.

My favourite is the Scorchio (it's from a British comedy called the Fast Show, when a Spanish weather girl is presenting the weather when the whole of spain just has suns on the map, and she keeps going 'scorchio!!!' - honestly it's funny ;))

I also like Bruces because Bruce Forsyth is a legend 8)

Ooh and it was nice when they did a Countdown related Lenny Conumdrum when the presenter of the British show Countdown, Richard Whitely, died. It was ace seeing him as a Chia :roflol:
