Tips for a restarting old member?

I just started a new account, to once again begin playing.

In the last... few years, what major changes did I miss? What should I be expecting now? Any other important stuff I should know?

There has been a ton of changes. You can still solve a plot in Altador. That should keep you busy for awhile.

Among the tons of new games, World challenges allows you to play them against other members to earn map pieces. That is definately awesome.
