No more contractions on the message boards?

Fri Mar 30, 2007 11:31 pm

So, I'm trying to post on my guild message board, and it won't let me post "won't" or "wouldn't". I tried posting just a ' and guess what - that one character is blocked. Why would they block a ' ?

Either it has something to do with (or is a mistake in) the code used to write the filter (lots of objects are contained within ' ' ), or it's a swear word in some obscure language.

Or I'm just as in the dark about it as you. o_O

I can post ' I'm '

Weird. I just tried to post "I'm" since you said that, and I got this:

"- Input Blocked -

The text that you just entered has not been accepted by the Neopets system because of a possible rude word, or HTML that we have had to block. The phrase that was blocked was ''.

Bad language is NOT acceptable on Neopets in any way at all. In addition, there are certain HTML and Javascript tags such as 'IFRAME' and 'onLoad' that have been blocked too.

It is possible that we may have made a mistake, so if you believe that this text should not be blocked, click here to notify us. Otherwise please click Back to re-enter the text. "

Edit: I just tried to post on the neoboards, and it let me post contraction words. But I tried to post the same words (by c/p'ing it) onto the guild message board, and it gave me the bad language message.

Typical they "disallow" a don't or doesn't. ;) Scientologists want 'go getters' so try rephrasing in the postive (of a negative)? Or non-contractions. Do not, will not, etc.

Insane, this Neo World Order, I tell you.

EDIT: It possibly could be the new filters, not all that bad in terms of increased security. However, an apostrophe never did much damage.

EDIT: In fact, is there even ONE coder out there, that could tell us definitively if ONE apostrophe in a bunch of code could 'execute' something? I am inclined to think, from the little I admit I know about coding, "it takes two" (at least)?

They still haven't fixed searching '100% Fake Uni Mask' on the Wiz. Even though I can find it after if I eliminate the % and use 'contains' instead of an exact term search. Still the 'find' that comes up contains .. yes, 100%.

It's early for an April Fool's prank.

Unfortunately, this time I think the joke is on us. Weekend updates DO happen, and inevitably .. make us laugh .. this time they will be laughing.

Just figured out that we can't use " quote marks either. So weird.

I just tried talking to my petpet, saying "You're ugly" and it told me not to swear. I tried "You are ugly" and it didn't care. Sooo yeah I have no idea why either.

In case anybody's wondering why I'm telling my petpet it's ugly, I just had to take down my 3 year old level 9 petpet in order to try for an avatar. I'm bitter, okay? :P

Okay, this is strange... neither single nor double quote marks are showing up in pet lookups now, at least not in mine. I thought that problem was fixed long ago.

Even stranger is that I tried to use the HTML workaround ( & # 3 4; ) (without the spaces, it looks like " ) and that was stopped by the filter as bad language. o_O Am I missing something here?

personally i'm using the ยด and the ` as a work-a-round the ban.

That's so strange! I'm surprised I've never encountered it, I use contractions constantly. (As is evinced by this post, in which I used three in two short sentences.)

Everything seems to be fine now. I have successfully posted in my guild without being 'filtered'. :)
