Do you lab your pet?

Sun Jun 03, 2007 2:48 am

If so, you should contribute to IDB's new lab ray research project:

The current data posted on IDB is a little bit outdated, so we have decided to re-conduct research on the Lab Ray. The main goal of this research will be to analysis the general lab results, but there will also be additional analysis on the effects of species, color, gender, stats, and time. However, IDB can't do it all ourselves, we need the community's help in getting as much data as possible.

Go here to help!

This will help all lab users and battlers, so I hope it's cool that I mentioned it here. I hope a lot of you help!

I don't currently, but I can adopt a pet and do it.

What a great idea! I've been waiting for someone to actually do this! Thanks for telling us about it Cranberry :)

I think it's great that the IDB is doing lab ray research now. Most sites think it's a settled issue, but I think things have changed at some point--hopefully this study will cast some light. :)

I would love to help when I get the lab ray! I was planning on keeping a record of changes anyway, and I'd love to see the results of this research.

The only thing is it might be a while before I get around to getting the lab map, I've got some other things I want to get done first. :/

Yeah, a lot of us suspect that TNT changed the result percentages when they released the Pwned by the Lab avatar, and all our old research was from before that... so we hope to find out what the new labbing trends are. HP is still the quickest stat to rise, but color and species changes certainly seem more infrequent now, and quite a few people have reported gaining more defence than before (albeit slowly). This should be interesting, anyway. Thanks to everyone who's agreed to help -- and as kage posted at IDB, if you don't have Excel, OpenOffice is an excellent, safe, and free alternative. I use it, myself.

In any case, I thought tracking the Lab Ray should be a long-term ongoing project anyways...if anything, you'll just get more refined results the longer you collect data.

Thanks for the link, Cranberry. I'll help. :)

I was thinking about buying the Lab Ray... about how much did it cost you?

600-700k, maybe less if you shop for bargains.

It's definitely worth it if you have the NP to do so. :)

Abby,

I managed to do it for a bit over 500k NP maybe a month ago? The trading post is a rip off, I did it via the shop wizard thanks to the advice of people on this board. The problem you will run into there is that its random what map piece the wizard pulls. With some patience though and a lot of refreshing and hunting, you will make out far better there than what people at the trading post want.

Good luck!

To abby. Deciding on the lab depends a lot on HOW you want your pet to look (appearance and stat-wise). Getting the lab means you will never have a set species+color, it will ALWAYS be changing. Also, unless you equalize it with constant KQ+training, your HP and STR will go up, whereas your DEF slowly drops. How MUCH that happens? Well, we're trying to find that out now :D

Anyway, just thought I'd post his here..

Okay, I'm collecting all the excel files now. I know it's been a bit less than a month, but I just want to get an idea of how everyone's doing and how many people are participating.

The best method will be sending the excel file as an attachment through e-mail. Please include "Lab Ray Research" somewhere in the topic. For the excel file, please rename the file using your forumname/neoname. Mines is:

kagemucha_Results.xls

My e-mail is: KageEX@gmail.com.

Thanks for everyone cooperation! and keep recording those zaps!

*For INT. Those who have pets without a numerical intelligence value should be able to find the numerical value for all pet stats by going to their pet page. If all their stats aren't there, you can plug in the codes provided by TNT (in this case, intelligence is #INTELLIGENCE) to find out the numerical values. For example, on the lookup for my pet, it says "average," yet on its petpage it lists the intellegence as 10..

Here's a dumb question... how do I plug in the code into my petpage? Help! :)

Firstly, you can edit your Neopets pages here:
http://www.neopets.com/edithomepage.phtml

Then, go anywhere you want and type the code in, just like this:
#INTELLIGENCE

That's it. So, if it was in the middle of a sentence for some reason, you'd type:
blah blah blah and my intelligence is #INTELLIGENCE.
you'd get:
blah blah blah and my intelligence is 72.

No parentheses, brackets, etc. required. :) If you need to see it in action, click on the edit button for one of your pets pages, and you should see how the code is used to show stats.
