I posted this over at a Neo community on LJ, but I wanted to get your opinions too.
I've been away from Neo for almost 6 months, because of dodgy internet access and a huge full time study load at uni, and now I'm trying to get back into it - but I seem to be in somewhat of a 'slump'. How do you guys get out of this? Any suggestions would help -.-

Set yourself a goal of some sort, that keeps me going

That's a good idea, tdg. It might be helpful to set yourself a few mini-goals to reach, like an expensive petpet, petpetpet, or petpet pb or something (for example), rather than launching into a very long-term goal.
Were there any games/activities that you were particularly fond of?

I pick a few avatars/BD items to go for. Which is funny, because I don't visit the Neoboards(except when PPT's down for more than a day) or do 2-player Battledome.
And now I'm playing NQ2 on Insane for the first time. NQ2 is always a pretty easy way to get back into Neopets.

I make sure to go on every day, even if it's only to collect my bank interest. Also, find some games you actually enjoy playing, and don't worry about making neopoints when you play them.

Acutally I've never tried to force myself back into neo if i'm not in the mood (I usually have the opposite problem of trying to drag myself off the computer when I have work to do!
). But I guess I'd have to agree with other people's suggestions- goals (especially paintbrush/morphing/petpet goals) always seem to motivate me more than just accumalating the NP to reach a high bank deposit.

Both Neoquests and feeding kadoaties got me interested in playing when I was feeling slumpy. Picking a project to work on helped too. A few months ago, I decided to revamp my page of screenies and make a new lookup, which kept me occupied for a little while.

I like neopets...but it seems to hate me, which is discouraging. I never seem to get good items or random events. and thanks to slow internet I have trouble restocking and the ads cause the games I try to play to be super slow and glitchy.
I finally reached a long goal of mine - painting one of my uni's. it took forever for me to get the 4mil I needed.
now I'm poor again. theres so many other items on my wish list, but they have to wait so i can take forever saving up again.

The NQ idea is good - I've been slowly playing NQII to try and get back into it - however I'm currently in the Desert, which is the worst and slowest of the chapters >_> So it's a bit hard to stay motivated, lol.

Painting goals never help me, because I am an oversaver. If my goal is to paint a pet grey, I won't buy the brush til I have at least 1.5 mil over the cost, and while I'm oversaving I get bored again..
Right now my goal is to get the perfect petpets for all my pets. Of course all the petpets I want are 2-4 mil np..so I've gotten into restocking, which has gotten me reinterested in the game.
Before restocking I was obsessing over my gallery. Before that it was avatars. Before that it was pet colors. After my pets are 100% done I plan on getting into neohomes or album collections. One day I'll finish neoquest. Maybe next time I break a bone and have to sit in bed for a while.

I usually like to try out a section of the site I've never really used before. There are enough of those to keep me interested until I stop being bored with my usual pursuits. Right now, I'm getting into Plushie Tycoon, which is surprisingly fun.

Having goals is what keeps me playing everyday.

As everybody else mentioned, goals are what make it fun. Community also helps too. So if you really enjoy painting your pets, you could look for guilds/forums where there are a lot of people with that interest. If you like battledoming, there are battledome specific forums. Talking to people with the same goals can motivate you and increase your fun.
On the other hand, sometimes, when I was in a slump, I'd just take a break completely from neo. Then, when I came back, it would be "fresh" and interesting again.

I find a really good mini-mini goal (is that even a word!) is to say to myself, I'll get 5k np today, do dailies, feed my pets, and back to real life I go. This helped me get out of the last slump I was in, and at the moment I've finished NQ II on insane, and am playing NQ I again to get the gold trophy.
Otherwise, something to get the competitive juices going like restocking always helps.
Good luck and hope you come out of the slump soon

I didn't play Neopets for like 4 years because I just got tired of and, then, because I felt I was too old for it (I'm 19 right now). Then in August of last year, I started playing again. Now, I'm on almost every day. I do sometimes go into "mini-slumps" and I'll just do my dailies and not any games. Sometimes, I won't play any games for a week or so because I need a break from it. Usually I'll go on Second Life instead of playing the games.
I couldn't remember what my username was before so I started all over again. I'll be on Neopets for a year on the 11th and now I have over 4 million Neopoints.
